Local junior golfers fare well in summer tourneys

Local golfers Grant Cagle and Camryn Cole each had top-10 finishes at two Georgia State Golf Association Championships on Wednesday.

Cagle, a Johnson grad, shot a 1-over 217 in three rounds to finish eighth in the 43rd annual Georgia Junior Championship at the Augusta Country Club.

Cagle’s lowest round came on the final day, when he shot a 70.

Gainesville High’s Cole shot a 283 in three rounds to finish fifth in Championship C of the 29th annual Georgia Girls Championship at Dunwoody Country Club in Atlanta.

Five local golfers also placed at an Atlanta Junior Golf event held Wednesday at Creekside Golf Course in Athens. Jackson Bishop of Gainesville shot a 55 to finish third in the boys 12 and under nine-hole division.

Carson Brown and Parks Brown, also of Gainesville, finished second and third, respectively, in the boys ages 13-14 18-hole open. Carson shot a 94 and Parks carded a 96. Cody Fleming of Dawsonville and Tyler Brantley of Demorest each shot an 86 to finished tied for third in the boys ages 15-18 18-hole open.
