Ledford strikes out four, three Lady Red Elephants homer in four-inning softball win

Lindsey Ledford only gave up two hits, totaled four strikeouts, and finished with no earned runs, while three Lady Red Elephants hit home runs in Gainesville’s (7-8) 21-4 four-inning rout of Clarke Central Wednesday.

Alyia Goss led the batting order by driving in a team-high six runs on a pair of hits, while Sidney Payne, Alani Mydell, Emma Philips, Ledford (three RBIs, four runs), Jayla Williams, and Isabella Folger finished the night with two hits apiece. Madison Oliver had two home runs with four RBIs, and Tanisha Watson followed (2 for 2) with a home run and two RBIs in her multi-hit performance. Mydell finished the night with a home run and three RBIs as well.

Gainesville hosts Apalachee at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Gainesville.

CHESTATEE 4, HABERSHAM CENTRAL 3: Chestatee’s (14-3) Rebecca Eddins was 1 for 3 with two runs scored from the plate, and had four strikeouts in three innings as the Lady War Eagles’ winning pitcher.

Fellow Lady War Eagle Elizabeth Eddins had two hits with a run scored, and pitched the first six innings, also finishing her night with one strikeout.

Chestatte next faces Blessed Trinity at 5 p.m. Thursday in Roswell.

EAST HALL 6, FLOWERY BRANCH 0:  Steffanie Redmon recorded 14 strikeouts and allowed just two hits in a complete game showing, helping the Lady Vikings (8-5) in the win.

An RBI-single by Redmon in the first inning fueled the Lady Vikings’ offense early. The Lady Vikings piled on five more runs in the top of the third. Macy Banks’s single got things going, bringing home Carley Cox and Mia Rakestraw.

East Hall visits Dawson County at 5 p.m. Thursday.


Gainesville’s (10-8 overall, 2-0 Area 8-AAAAAA) Sydney King led with 21 digs, two assists and an ace in the Lady Red Elephant’s sweep of George Walton Academy and Apalachee.

The Lady Red Elephants defeated George Walton Academy in straight sets (25-16, 25-17), and defeated Apalachee in the same fashion, (25-13, 25-21).

Savannah Roys recorded 11 service aces, 10 kills and six digs. Abby Alexander recorded nine kills with two service aces, while Tangi Miller posted six kills. Anny Wylie added four blocks and six kills. Camille Holcomb racked up 16 assists and three aces.

Cori Griffith (two digs, two kills), Bessie Winston (two digs, two kills), Camille Calkins (1 1/2 blocks, four kills), Isabella Appling (three acces, three digs) were others to contribute in the winning efforts.
Gainesville will be participants in the Athens Academy Invitational on Saturday in Athens.


The Lakeview Academy boy’s cross country team finished third overall with an average of 18:23 at the Riverside Invitational on Wednesday.

Wright Allen finished third overall with a personal best time of 16:54. The girl’s team finished seventh overall with an average of 25:36. Jackie Allen ran a personal best (22:30) to finish ninth.
