Lady Spartans find early season stride

The West Hall High girls basketball team defeated White County 49-47 Tuesday in Oakwood. With the win, the Lady Spartans (3-3, 2-1 Region 7-AAA) already matched last season's total win total.

Senior guard Kim Smigelskly led West Hall with 18 points, including two 3-pointers in the final period that helped secure the Lady Spartan victory. Junior forward Jayla Moon added 15 points, Bailey Soucie scored six and Tiffany Black finished with six.

Lindsey Wiley and Amanda Watkins each scored 17 for White County.

West Hall's next game is Friday in the Lanierland tournament.

Lakeview Academy 40, Hebron Christian 37

Junior Brittany Moore led the Lady Lions to their first win of the season Tuesday night with 11 points.

Lakeview (1-4, 1-0 Region 8-A) resumes play in the first round of the Lanierland tournament on Friday.

Buford 43, Lovett 26

Junior point guard Michelle Godwin hit five 3-pointers to lead the Lady Wolves with 15 points Tuesday night in Atlanta. Buford (2-1, 2-0 Region 6-AA) junior Blanche Albertson added 14 points and Jocelyn Danley finished with nine.

Buford plays host to Pace Academy at 7 p.m. Friday.

North Hall 80, Johnson 42

Lady Trojans' senior Letiecia Davenport scored 19 points and Elizabeth Williams added 14 Tuesday night in Oakwood.

Bradee Burrell chipped in 13 and Anna Porras finished with 12 for North Hall (2-1, 2-1 Region 7-AAA).

Shekeria Cooper led Johnson (0-5, 0-2 Region 7-AAA) with 17 points.

North Hall and Johnson play in the first round of the Lanierland tournament on Friday.

Jefferson 77, Athens Christian 37

Jefferson point guard MiMi Dubose led the Lady Dragons (3-1, 1-0 Region 8-A) with 27 points Tuesday night in Athens. Caroline Adams added 17, while Brittney Crews and Kayla Edwards each scored nine.

Jefferson visits Franklin County at 7 p.m. Friday.

Pickens 53, Chestatee 49

Senior guard Kasey Smith led the Lady War Eagles (2-5) with 15 points Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Chestatee plays in the first round of the Lanierland tournament on Friday.

BOYS

The Flowery Branch High basketball team extended its winning streak to five with a blowout 72-36 victory against Gilmer on Friday in Flowery Branch.

Josh Barrett led the Falcons (5-0, 3-0 Region 7-AAA) with 21 points and five assists.

Flowery Branch plays this weekend in the first round of the Lanierland tournament.

Lakeview Academy 82, Hebron Christian 37

Lakeview seniors Colin King and David Pruett each scored 15 points Tuesday night in Dacula. Tyler Ward added 13 points, Neil Stanford finished with 12 and Grayson Ingram poured in 10 for the Lions (3-2, 1-0 Region 8-A).

Lakeview plays Friday in the first round of the Lanierland tournament.

Chestatee 67, Pickens 41

Tennessee State commit Parker Smith led the War Eagles with 21 points Tuesday night at the War Eagle gymnasium. Brandon Jovaag added 18 points for Chestatee (3-1, 1-1 Region 7-AAA).

Chestatee plays in the first round of the Lanierland tournament on Friday.

West Hall 49, White County 47

Junior point guard Terrell Penland and freshman forward Shunquez Stephens each scored 11 points to lead the Spartans Tuesday night in Oakwood.

West Hall plays in the first round of the Lanierland Tournament on Friday.

North Hall 86, Johnson 74

Senior point guard Josh Haymore poured in 30 points to lead North Hall on Tuesday night in Oakwood. Ethan Satterfield added 13 points, while Robby Hill and Milton Coleman each scored 10.

Brandon Sloan led Johnson with 23 points.

Both teams play in the Lanierland Tournament on Friday.

Buford 52, Lovett 42

Jaremie Moore scored 15 points to lead Buford past Lovett on Tuesday night in Atlanta. Landon Hodnett added 12 and Jordan Williams finished with 10 points.

Buford (1-1, 1-1 Region 6-AA) plays host to Pace Academy at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Jefferson 75, Athens Christian 56

Chase Harris and Tab Martin each scored 16 points as the Dragons (3-1, 1-0) cruised past Athens Christian on Tuesday night.

WRESTLING

East Hall falls to Athens Christian

The East Hall high wrestling team lost 42-37 to Athens Christian on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Chris Ingram (119 pounds), Ceasar Espinoza (130), Stephen Mendoza (140), B.J. Bagwell (160) and Tyler Gilstrap (171) each picked up wins in their respective weight divisions.
