Lakeview Academy’s girls trailed by double-digits late in the fourth quarter, but made a run to cut Socal Circle’s lead to two with less than a minute left. But the Lady Lions couldn’t get any closer, missing two chances to tie or take the lead before falling 38-34 to the Lady Redskins on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

The Lady Lions overcame a 22-8 first half deficit by outscoring the Lady Redskins 26-16 in the second half.

“The game is 32 minutes long, not 16,” Lady Lions coach John Carrick said. “If you don’t play 32 minutes, chances are you’re not going to win. Today, we fell over backwards in the first half.

“We played like we were capable of in the second half and it was good to see the kids come back.”

The Lady Lions (2-16) were led by Molly Gay’s 14 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. Mona Abraham added 10 points and three steals. Shermika Harris of Lady Redskins (4-11) led all scorers with 22 points.

Lakeview travels to play Athens Christian on Friday night at 7.
