After the first three periods of play, the North Hall Trojans boys’ basketball team never had a lead. When the buzzer sounded for the end of the game, they still didn’t have the lead, but they had tied the game to send it to overtime, where they were able to edge out East Hall for a 72-69 victory.

North Hall (4-1, 1-0 Region 7-AAA) trailed 35-29 at halftime, but were able to outscore East Hall (1-2, 0-1) 17-11 in the third period to tie the game at 46-46 going into the fourth.

“We played defense in the second half. We didn’t play (very) good defense in the first half. We knew they’d come out ready to play. And, they came out and hit us in the mouth,” North Hall boys basketball coach Benjie Wood said.

“Somehow, we found a way to win the game. I’m not quite sure how we did.”

North Hall was led by Adam Kelly, who scored a game-high 33 points and 12 rebounds for the Trojans. He also secured nine rebounds and went 15 of 17 from the free-throw line. Seven of his 15 free throws came in the fourth period and overtime.

Ebo Smith added 20 points as well, including two free throws with 12 seconds left to secure the game for the Trojans. Ten of Smith’s 20 points came in the fourth period. He also grabbed seven rebounds.

Zach Tibbs also connected on a 3-point shot in overtime.

“Just one of those things; two teams that are (probably) equal in talent, comes down to who makes the most plays down the stretch. I thought they made more plays than we did. I thought we had a couple of stops we really needed to get and we didn’t get them,” East Hall coach Joe Dix said. “(North Hall) did a good job of making their free throws down the stretch. That’s the ball game.”

The Trojans hit 14 free throws in the fourth period and overtime. East Hall was led by Daniel McCreavy, who racked up 18 points and seven rebounds. He also had three steals.

Jacquen Hopkins added 13 points, with six of them coming in the fourth period and overtime.

North Hall travels to Banks County Tuesday night for their second region game. East Hall travels to Buford for their second region game of the season.
