High school softball: Flowery Branch sweeps Fayette County in first round of 4A playoffs

Flowery Branch took care of business fast, beating Fayette County 15-0 in both games to sweep the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs Monday in Flowery Branch. With the wins, the Lady Falcons will face Cedartown in another best-of-three series Thursday in Flowery Branch. 

In Game 1, left-hander Nikki Harris struck out seven batters over three innings in the pitching circle. At the plate, Aubrey Bourrie had a double with two RBIs and scored three runs, while Savanna Rutledge added a double with two runs scored and three RBIs.

MaKaela Davis had a pair of hits with two RBIs with a run scored. Lauren Hicks and Avery Thomas each drove in a run with a hit.

In Game 2, Alyssa Wagner had seven strikeouts over three innings in the pitching circle. Bourrie had a triple, two hits and two runs for the Lady Falcons, while Davis had a double that scored a run. Rylee Rothschild was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Amanda LeBlanc had a hit with two runs and two RBIs. Zoe Johnson-Hadaway and Thomas each had a run-scoring hit for Flowery Branch. 

The winner of the second round will advance to the state tournament in Columbus.
