High school scoreboard: White County routs Gainesville

The White County High softball team moved one game closer to a playoff berth with a 10-2 win against Gainesville on Tuesday at Lanier Point Softball Complex.

Stephanie Satterfield picked up her 16th win of the season with eight strikeouts while going 3-for-3 at the plate for White County (19-5, 8-2 Region 7-AAA).

Krista Woody began the scoring for the Lady Warriors with a first-inning grand slam. Morgan Jacobson hit a two-run home run and Callie McDonald added two hits.

White County plays host to Flowery Branch at 5:55 p.m. Thursday. Gainesville (8-17, 3-7 Region 7-AAA) plays host to Lumpkin County at 5:55 p.m. Thursday.

West Hall 4, Gilmer 1

Emily Hammond struck out 12 hitters en route to her ninth win of the season while getting two hits and an RBI at the plate for the Lady Spartans on Tuesday in Oakwood.

Alex Wright also had two hits and Jessica Melear added a two-run single in fourth inning for West Hall (14-7, 8-2 Region 7-AAA).

West Hall visits Pickens at 5:55 p.m. Thursday.

Buford 13, Decatur 1

Melissa Dickie picked up her 10th win of the season with seven strikeouts for Class AA’s top-ranked Lady Wolves as they remained unbeaten in region play on Tuesday in Decatur.

Whitney Holman was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs for Buford (22-2-1, 5-0 Region 6-AA).

Samantha Ramey was 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and three runs. Whitney Wolfe was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Brand Hellemn added two hits for the Lady Wolves.

Buford visits Wesleyan at 4:30 p.m. today.

Jefferson 4, Oglethorpe County 0

Jennifer Brueshaber was 2-for-3 with two runs for the Lady Dragons on Tuesday in Lexington.

Kara Perry earned the win for Jefferson (11-12, 3-2 Region 8-AA) with four strikeouts and three hits allowed.

Jefferson plays host to Rabun County at 5:55 p.m. Thursday.

Chestatee, Flowery Branch sweep in region action


The Lady War Eagles added two region wins against Gainesville (25-14, 25-12) and Pickens (25-11, 25-22) on Tuesday in Flowery Branch.

Alura Roe had 13 kills, five digs, three aces and two blocks, and Charlotte Hill had eight digs and 22 assists for Chestatee (14-7, 4-2 Area 7-AAA). Melissa Bailey had five kills, two digs and one assist, Emily Wilks had four kills, two aces, two digs, one block and one assist, Madisen Yates had five kills, three aces, three digs and one block, Ali Burnette had 19 digs, four blocks, and two aces and Jessica Porter added 20 digs for the Lady War Eagles.

Gainesville (4-18, 0-5 Area 7-AAA) also lost Pickens (25-19, 25-23). Loren Thomas had eight assists, six kills and one block. Taylor Ricketts had 13 digs, nine assists, eight kills, four aces and two blocks, Kiki Thompson had 11 kills, five digs, six aces and an assist, Jazmine Jones had five kills and three blocks and Katelyn Whelchel added three assists.

Flowery Branch (26-8, 6-1 Area 7-AAA) also defeated Pickens and Gainesville in two games. Samantha Salyers finished the night with 12 kills and three aces and Jennica Ramey had 21 assists, five kills and four aces for the Lady Falcons. Megan Grewett had four kills and seven aces against Gainesville and Danielle Miller had five kills and two aces against Pickens.

Chestatee, Gainesville and Monroe Area will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday at Gainesville. Flowery Branch faces Johnson at Creekview at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Johnson.

North Hall drops two on the road

The Lady Trojans fell to West Forsyth (27-25, 25-14) and Creekview (23-25, 25-11, 25-23) on Tuesday in Cumming.

Evann Rowland had eight kills and a service run of eight, and Kathryn Bell had 16 assists for North Hall (13-12, 4-2 Area 7-AAA). Katherine Filchak had seven kills and five blocks, Betsy Burns had two blocks and three kills and Haley Panter had an ace and a service run of seven for the Lady Trojans.

North Hall plays host to Lakeview Academy and North Forsyth and 5 p.m. Thursday.

Buford splits home match

The Lady Wolves defeated region opponent Paideia (25-21, 25-20) and lost to another region opponent, Providence Christian (25-19, 25-20), on Tuesday in Buford.

Hallye Jerkins had seven kills and Elizabeth Darden had nine digs for Buford (13-10, 3-3 Area 4-A/AA) against Paideia.

Hannah Parets had six digs and Nancy Mattox had four blocks for the Lady Wolves against Providence Christian.

Buford faces Dacula, Brookwood and Duluth at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Dacula.
