High school scoreboard: West Hall edges Gainesville for region win

The West Hall High baseball team picked up a region win with a 4-3 victory against Gainesville on Friday in Oakwood.

Luis Delgado scored on an error in the fourth inning to break a 3-3 tie and give West Hall (4-1, 2-1 Region 7-AAA) the lead.

Brandon Grindle set the offensive tone early for the Spartans with a two-run home run in the second inning.

Scott Eichler pitched a complete game for West Hall, earning the win.

Will Maddox and Mark Casper each had two hits for Gainesville (1-4, 1-3).

West Hall visits White County at 1 p.m. today. Gainesville plays host to Chestatee at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

North Hall 14, Gilmer 4

Davis Partrick was 4-for-4 with four RBIs in a five-inning win for the Trojans on Friday in Ellijay.

K.J. McAllister had two hits and two RBIs for North Hall (2-3, 2-1 Region 7-AAA). Ryan Pitts scored three runs.

Chris Stevens picked up the win for the Trojans, pitching a complete game and striking out four.

North Hall plays host to Flowery Branch at 1 p.m. today.

East Hall 10, Johnson 0

The Vikings picked up their first region win of the season in five innings Friday at East Hall Park.

Nick Deaton pitched a complete game for East Hall (2-4, 1-3 Region 7-AAA) with seven strikeouts and only one hit allowed. He
also had two hits at the plate for the Vikings.

Cody Davidson was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs for East Hall. Greg Edwards added two hits and two RBIs.

East Hall visits Flowery Branch at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Johnson (1-3, 1-2) visits North Hall at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

Lakeview Academy 6, St. Francis 3

Trailing 3-2 in the sixth inning, the Lions unloaded with a four-run inning for a late win Friday in Alpharetta.

Ralston Cash hit a solo home run and Matt Askounis had a two-run double in the sixth inning.

Brett Armour picked up the in relief, striking out six in three innings.

Lakeview plays host to Mount Pisgah at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Creekview 8, Lumpkin County 1

The Indians suffered their first loss of the year Friday in Canton.

Jonathan Whitehead had an RBI for Lumpkin County (5-1, 3-1 Region 7-AAA). Will Anderson, Drew Uptegraph and Blake Sargent each had one hit.

Collins Wold and Christian Van Camp each had three hits for Creekview.

Lumpkin County plays host to West Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Gainesville boys 2, Flowery Branch 0

The Red Elephants picked up their fourth straight win by upsetting ninth-ranked Flowery Branch on Friday at City Park.

Yones Yanes and Russ Puckett each scored for Gainesville (6-1, 2-0 Area 7-AAA). Monish Lahiri added an assist.

Phillip Gaines recorded the shutout in goal for the Red Elephants.

Gainesville visits Creekview at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Flowery Branch (5-3-1, 2-1) visits West Hall at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Chestatee girls 1, West Hall 0

Daniela Sotelo scored on a free kick early in the first half to give the Lady War Eagles the edge for the rest of the game Friday at Chestatee High.

Sharon Sotelo made six saves in goal for Chestatee (4-1-1, 2-1 Region 7-AAA) to record her fourth shutout of the year.

Chestatee plays host to Rabun Gap at 1 p.m. today. West Hall (5-2, 1-2) plays host to North Hall at 5 p.m. today.

West Hall boys 3, Chestatee 1

Juan Arbelaez led Class AAA's sixth-ranked Spartans with two goals Friday at Chestatee High.

Chris Lewis also scored for West Hall (6-1, 3-0 Area 7-AAA). Tino Vazquez and Felix Ramirez recorded assists for the Spartans.

West Hall plays host to North Hall at 6 p.m. today. Chestatee (3-5, 0-3) visits North Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

North Hall girls 1, West Forsyth 0

Tess Patton scored the lone goal of the game in the second half off a cross pass from Heather Strickland to hand West Forsyth its first loss of season Friday in Cumming.

Mary Mancin made 12 saves for the shutout in goal for North Hall (4-2, 2-0 Region 7-AAA). Emily Smith and Taylor Knight led the Lady Trojans with strong play throughout the game.

North Hall visits West Hall at 4 p.m. today.

Lakeview Academy boys 4, Chestatee 1 (Thursday)


Nekhil Patel, Mike Fowler each won in singles for the Lions on Thursday at Chestatee High.

The team of Matt Morris and Alex Klecan and the team of Sean Casey and Jackson Beck swept doubles for Lakeview.

Abraham Montoya won a singles match for Chestatee.

Lakeview visits Towns County at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Chestatee plays host to Hart County at 4 p.m. Monday.

Chestatee girls 3, Lakeview Academy girls 2

Amy Werner picked up a singles win and the team of Emily Elder and Sarah Beth Tankersley won in doubles for the Lady War
Eagles on Thursday at Chestatee High.

Chestatee picked up its third win after a Lakeview Academy default at No. 2 doubles.

Jackie Burleson and Nyari Chanakira each won in singles for Lakeview Academy.

Lakeview visits Towns County at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Chestatee plays host to Hart County at 4 p.m. Monday.

Flowery Branch girls 5, Gainesville 0 (Thursday)

Jennica Ramey, Megan Grewett and Morgan Ruiz each won in singles for the Lady Falcons on Thursday.

The team of Morgan Reed and Nicki Price and Elizabeth Mallory and Lindsey Shaw each completed the sweep in doubles for
Flowery Branch.

Flowery Branch visits West Forsyth at 4 p.m. Monday.

TRACK AND FIELD

Riverside wins nine events at area meet


The Eagles picked up nine first-place finishes at a meet against Gainesville and Chestatee on Thursday at Chestatee High.

Marlon Veazie led Riverside wins in the 200-meter, 100 and on the 4x100 team.

Other first-place finished were Brad Baker in the 400, Landon Rowinski in the 3200, Hyung Oh in the 110 hurdles, Aaron
Gambrah in the discus and shot put and Adrian Quinones in the triple jump.

Second-place finishers were the Eagles' 4x400 team, Fernando Osegueda-Weiner in the 1600, Oh in the 300 hurdles, Quinones in the high jump, Mims in the pole vault and Colton Keig in the shot put.

Third-place finishers were Victor Frick in the 100, Jonathan Gallup in the 3200, Zack Anderson in the 300 hurdles, Keig in the discus, Logan Clemens in the shot put and Jack Bouchard in the long jump.

Riverside faces North Oconee and Banks County at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at North Oconee High.
