High school scoreboard: Walk-off home run sparks Warriors

The White County High baseball team won on a walk-off home run by Kevin Frederick in bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Gilmer 12-11 on Monday in Ellijay.

Along with the home run, Frederick finished the night 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for the Warriors (9-8, 7-8 Region 7-AAA).

Adam Hooper also homered for White County, which has won three straight. Hayden Cummins, Travis Rutkiewicz and Zach Messmore each added two hits for the Warriors.

Kyle Mills earned his second win of the season in relief for White County, keeping Gilmer from scoring in the last two innings.

Phillip Henri led Gilmer, going 4-for-5 with a triple.

White County visits West Hall at 5:30 p.m. today.

GOLF

Lumpkin County 153, Pickens 188


Aaron George shot a 36 to lead the Indians to a win Monday at Big Canoe Golf Course in Jasper.

Austin Booker and Ben Jarrard each carded a 38 for Lumpkin County.

Lumpkin County plays host to Pickens and Johnson in an 18-hole match at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega.

Gainesville boys 3, West Forsyth 2


Class AAA’s sixth-ranked Red Elephants swept doubles action with wins in straight sets by the unbeaten teams of Louis Hokayem/Corey McDonald and Robbie Bilbrough/Drew Denning on Monday in Cumming.

Ryan Joiner won in singles for Gainesville, which has won 10 matches in a row.

Gainesville and West Forsyth open Region 7-AAA Tournament play Thursday.

SOCCER

Gainesville girls 1, West Forsyth 0


Rebecca Webster scored on an assist from Raquel Castillo to lead the Lady Red Elephant to an upset win over fourth-ranked West Forsyth on Monday in Cumming.

Hong Tran made 14 saves for Gainesville (9-6, 5-4 Area 7-AAA).

Gainesville visits Johnson at 5:30 p.m. today.
