High School Scoreboard: Simonds drops 40, Gainesville knocks off Cedar Shoals in double overtime

D’Marcus Simonds led all scorers with 40 points, Tae Turner chipped in 16 and the Gainesville boys basketball team knocked off Cedar Shoals 80-77 in double overtime on Tuesday in Athens.

KJ Buffen, Xavier Bledson and Messiah Dorsey all picked up eight points each for the Red Elephants (4-0, 3-0 Region 8-AAAAA).

Gainesville next plays at home Friday against Clarke Central.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 66, SALEM 18: Taniyah Worth scored 11 points and Queen Scott had 10 for Flowery Branch.

The Lady Falcons were up 27-0 after the first quarter and led the Lady Seminoles by 46 at halftime.

Flowery Branch (6-0, 3-0 Region 8-AAAAA) next hosts Cedar Shoals on Friday.

BANKS COUNTY BOYS 71, WEST HALL 54: Zez Steeple scored 32 points and had six assists for the Leopards in a region win over the Spartans.

Trevae Cain notched 13 points and 10 assists for Banks County.

The Leopards (6-0) visit East Hall at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

BANKS COUNTY GIRLS 77, WEST HALL 71 (2OT): Allison Smith led the Lady Leopards with 22 points in the double-overtime win.

Mallory Parson pitched in 16 points, while Morgan Rylee scored 12 for Banks County.

The Lady Leopards (5-1, 1-0 Region 7-AAA) next travel to East Hall for a 7 p.m. tip on Friday.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 66, UNION COUNTY 33: Carter Reeves scored 15 points and had 10 boards for the Lions in a home win.

Drew Cottrell and Josh Randolph both had 12 points for Lakeview (4-1).

Daniel Fadool and Jack Blackburn both had six assists.

The Lions next travel to play Providence Christian Academy at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Lakeview’s next home game is against Prince Avenue Christian at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY GIRLS 54, UNION COUNTY 30: Hanna Grogan led all scorers with 35 points, including the 1,000th point of her high school career.

The Lady Lions (3-4) next travel to play Providence Christian Academy on Friday.

DISCOVERY BOYS 83, NORTH HALL 59: Carson Heinen scored 14 points, including the 1,000th point of his high school career Tuesday in Gainesville.

Sam Jackson chipped in 10 points for the Trojans.

The Trojans (3-2) next travel to play Woodward Academy on Saturday in College Park.

NORTH HALL GIRLS 48, DISCOVERY 23: Taylor Anne Kelley scored 11 points to lead the Lady Trojans to a comfortable win over Discovery.

Kyasia Overstreet led all scorers with 12 points for Discovery.

North Hall (3-2) next travels to Woodward Academy for a 4 p.m. tip on Saturday.

OGLETHORPE COUNTY 65, RIVERSIDE MILITARY ACADEMY 62: Davis Short scored 24 points to lead the Eagles in the loss.

Riverside had a 29-27 halftime lead, and scored 25 points in the fourth.

Javon Thompson scored 20 points for Riverside on 7-of-10 shooting.

NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN 73, MOUNTAIN AREA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 36: Justin Law led the Chargers with 15 points, while Will Owens chipped in 13.

ST. FRANCIS GIRLS 51, BUFORD 48 (OT): Tory Ozment scored 12 points to lead the Lady Wolves in Tuesday’s overtime road loss.

Buford (3-2) will next play at home against Greenbrier at 11 a.m. Saturday.

WRESTLING

Chestatee’s wrestling team topped West Hall 57-21 Tuesday evening.

Among the wrestlers who won by pin: Gavin Cunningham, Anthony Aguilar, Matthew McClellan, Jaime Arroyo, Isaac Alarcon, Paco Rebollar and Gavin London.
