White County softball improves to 8-0 in region play

The White County softball team improved to 8-0 in Region 8A-AAA play on Thursday, defeating North Hall 5-0 in Cleveland to secure a region playoff berth.

Callie McDonald (9-1) earned the win from the circle, striking out seven and surrendering only two hits. Stephanie Satterfield went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Lady Warriors at the plate.

Sarabeth Cummins went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Morgan Jacobson went 2-for-3 with a double for White County (18-4), which plays host to Franklin County at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday.

JEFFERSON 6, EAST JACKSON 3: Jordyn Whitfield went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two doubles to lead the Lady Dragons to the win Thursday in Commerce.

Summer Bartek went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored for Jefferson (18-6-1, 8-1 Region 8B-AA).

The Lady Dragons play North Oconee at 1 p.m. on Saturday at North Georgia College & State University.

Volleyball

FLOWERY BRANCH 3, NORTH FORSYTH 1:
The Lady Falcons defeated the Lady Raiders 25-22, 25-27, 25-18, 25-20 on Thursday in Cumming.

Brittani Hill had 23 assists and 10 kills, Alexis Love had 10 kills and Katherine McMillin had 17 kills and nine assists for Flowery Branch (14-7, 7-1 Area 8-AAAA). The Lady Falcons visit Chestatee for a playdate with Lambert at 5 p.m. on Monday.

WEST HALL TAKES TWO AT HOME:
The Lady Spartans defeated Habersham Central (14-25, 25-17, 25-21) and Lanier (25-15, 25-18) on Thursday in Gainesville.

Laykin Herford had 42 assists and eight aces and Nicolette Ashley had 13 digs, an ace and a kill to lead West Hall (18-12, 2-4 Area 8B-AAA).

Julie Walsh had 12 kills, two aces and five digs, Stephanie Rowland had 11 kills and an ace and LaNiesha Kearse had 10 kills and a block for the Lady Spartans, who visit Oconee County for a playdate with Eastside at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

BUFORD WINS ONE, LOSES TWO: The Lady Wolves opened play in the Gwinnett County Championships on Thursday with losses to Grayson (17-25, 15-25) and Wesleyan (17-25, 19-25) and a win over Duluth (25-10, 25-8) in Buford.

Maggie Roper had 16 kills and 20 digs, Liz Darden had 28 digs and Jessica Falletta had seven kills, 13 digs and seven aces for Buford (29-7, 4-1 Area 6-A/AA), which continues play in the Gwinnett County Championships on Saturday at the Suwanee Sports Academy.

GAINESVILLE SPLITS AT HOME:
Kaitlyn Whelchel and Anna Walker each had 14 kills as the Lady Red Elephants lost to Tallulah Falls (17-25, 25-18, 19-25) and defeated East Jackson (25-17, 25-19) on Thursday.

Laura Beth Lorentz had 10 kills and Daphne Ragone had 28 assists for Gainesville (5-13, 0-6 Area 8-AAA), which visits Monroe Area for a playdate with North Hall at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY WINS TWO AT HOME: Led by Jamie Nixon’s 16 kills, the Lady Lions defeated Rabun County (25-21, 22-25, 25-20) and Jackson County (25-20, 25-22) on Thursday in Gainesville.

Lindsey Brock added eight kills on the day for Lakeview (15-17, 8-5 Area 8-A/AA).

Against Rabun County, Megan Mcintire and Molly Gay each had eight assists and Gay added three aces. Against Jackson County, Lauren Lewallen had three aces for Lakeview, which opens play in the Area 8-A/AA tournament on Oct. 5 at Athens Academy.

NORTH HALL DROPS TWO AT WEST FORSYTH:
Class AAA’s No. 10-ranked Lady Trojans lost to Hart County (19-25, 16-25) and West Forsyth (16-25, 22-25) on Thursday in Cumming.

North Hall (19-9, 7-0 Area 8-AAA) visits Monroe Area for a playdate with Gainesville at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
