Buford softball beats rival GAC

Tied at two in the bottom of the seventh inning, senior Cara Cole hit a double to drive in Chelsie Thomas and give the Buford softball team a 3-2 victory over Greater Atlanta Christian on senior night in Buford.

Melissa Dickie earned the win from the circle, throwing a complete-game two-hitter to improve her record to 9-3 on the season.

Cole finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and Thomas, also a senior, finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Class AA’s No. 1-ranked Buford (19-4, 4-0 Region 6A-AA).

With the win over subregion opponent GAC, Buford secured a No. 1 seed going into the region tournament next week.

Lexi Overstreet went 1-for-3 with a home run and senior Karly Fullem went 2-for-3 with a double for the Lady Wolves, who play host to East Coweta for their final regular season game at 5:55 p.m. Sept. 28.

WHITE COUNTY 12, CHESTATEE 0 (FOUR INNINGS):
Stephanie Satterfield threw a complete-game no-hitter as the Lady Warriors won Tuesday in Cleveland.

Satterfield also went 2-for-2 with a double, home run, three runs scored and three RBIs for White County (17-4, 7-0 Region 8A-AAA).

Heather Herdliska went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Lady Warriors, who play host to North Hall at 5:55 p.m. Thursday.

NORTH HALL 3, LUMPKIN COUNTY 2:
Courtney Gearin earned the win from the circle and Danielle Newbern had two hits in the Lady Trojans’ win Tuesday in Dahlonega. North Hall (8-12, 3-5 Region 8A-AAA) visits White County at 5:55 p.m. Thursday. Lumpkin County visits Franklin County at 5:55 p.m. Thursday.

Volleyball

NORTH HALL TAKES TWO AT CHESTATEE: The Lady Trojans defeated Chestatee (25-15, 16-25, 25-18) and Eastside (25-10, 25-17) on Tuesday.

Kathryn Bell had 29 assists and seven aces on the day for Class AAA’s tenth-ranked North Hall.

Mary Kate Rushton had 11 kills and six aces, Sarah Paschall had six digs, three aces and one block, Madison Copeland had five kills and two blocks and Jen Owen had six digs for North Hall, which visits West Forsyth at 5 p.m. Thursday.

JEFFERSON WINS TWO AT HOME:
Amanda Daniel had 26 assists, four aces and three kills as the Lady Dragons defeated Rabun County (25-10, 25-22) and East Hall (25-23, 25-14) on Tuesday. Taylor Cramsey had 20 kills and three aces for Jefferson (24-6, 11-0 Area 8-A/AA).

Cassie Metcalf (seven aces, six kills), Eden Starnes (three aces, six kills), Sarah Wood (nine aces, six kills, six assists), Savannah Bogue (four aces) and Brianna Patterson (three aces) led the Lady Dragons.

Jefferson begins play in the Conyers Classic against Eagle’s Landing at 7 p.m. Friday.

JOHNSON SPLITS AT HOME: The Lady Knights defeated Gainesville 2-1 (25-13, 19-25, 25-21) and lost to Oconee County 2-0 (14-25, 14-25) on Tuesday.

Britt Mimbs had 10 aces, four assists and two kills and Kellsie Brisbois had 15 digs on the day for Johnson (15-16, 4-3 Area 8-AAA).

Against Gainesville, Karis Sloan had three kills and Brittany Panther had three aces and four assists for Johnson. Against Oconee County, Lejavian Ratliff had three kills and Caitlin Sloan had two blocks.

The Lady Knights visit Walnut Grove for a playdate with Chestatee at 5 p.m. Sept. 28.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 2, EAST JACKSON 1: Led by Jamie Nixon’s eight kills, three blocks and three aces, the Lady Lions won Tuesday in Commerce.

Molly Gay had four aces and five assists and Mona Abraham had two aces for Lakeview (13-17, 6-5 Area 8-A/AA), which plays host to Rabun County and Jackson County at 5 p.m. Thursday.

WEST HALL WINS TWO AT HOME: Led by Nicolette Ashley’s 21 digs, the Lady Spartans defeated Monroe Area (25-15, 25-16) and Lanier (22-25, 25-13, 25-19) on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Laykin Herford had 34 assists, eight aces and two kills for West Hall (16-12, 2-4 Area 8B-AAA).

Against Monroe Area, Tanya Bennett had five kills and two blocks and Gracie Allison had three kills and four digs. In the Lanier match, LaNiesha Kearse had seven kills and Stephanie Rowland had six kills and two aces.

Ashley also added two aces and two kills on the day for West Hall, which plays host to Lanier and Habersham Central at 5 p.m. Thursday.

FLOWERY BRANCH SPLITS AT ROCKDALE COUNTY: Alexis Love had 12 kills as the Lady Falcons defeated Alcovy (25-6, 25-7) and lost to Rockdale County (27-29, 14-25) on Tuesday.

Katherine McMillin had eight kills and Brittani Hill had seven kills on the day for Flowery Branch (12-6, 7-1 Area 8-AAAA).

Against Alcovy, Kenzie Grewett had eight aces and 11 assists for Flowery Branch, which plays at North Forsyth at 5 p.m. Thursday.

CHESTATEE SPLITS AT HOME: The Lady War Eagles defeated Eastside (24-26, 25-15, 25-12) and lost to North Hall (15-25, 25-16, 18-25) on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Courtney Buffington had five serving aces with a six-point service run, Melissa Bailey had eight kills, six aces and an eight-point service run, Madison Dunn had seven aces with an eight-point service run, Lindsay Neece had four kills and three blocks, Kellen Richards had seven kills and four aces and Carly Dale had three kills for Chestatee (5-2 Area 8A-AAA). The Lady War Eagles play host to Flowery Branch and Lambert at 5 p.m. Monday.
