Two area softball pitchers throw no-hitters

Two area softball pitchers threw no-hitters on Thursday to lead their respective teams to five-inning victories on the road.

Buford’s Karly Fullem struck out 13 as the Lady Wolves won 11-0 at Decatur. Fullem also went 2-for-3 with a run scored from the plate while improving her record to 6-1 from the circle.

Callie McDonald also improved to 6-1 on the season for White County as the Lady Warriors defeated Lumpkin County 9-0 in Dahlonega. McDonald also went 3-for-4 from the plate.

For Buford (14-4, 3-0 Region 6A-AA), Madyson Wynegar went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored, while Kallie Case had a hit and three RBIs. Chelsie Thomas went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Lanae Hodnett had a hit and two RBIs for the Lady Wolves, who continue play in the Brookwood Tournament at Collins Hill at 5:30 p.m. today against Northside Warner-Robbins.

White County (12-3, 6-0 Region 8A-AAA) had 16 hits as a team in their victory, led by Sarabeth Cummins who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Aubrie Gstalder went 3-for-3, while Laura Sangster went 2-for-2 with a home run for the Lady Warriors. Morgan Jacobson had a three-RBI double for White County, which plays Forsyth Central at 4:30 p.m. today at North Hall in the North Fall Classic.

JEFFERSON 13, ELBERT COUNTY 3 (FIVE INNINGS):
The Lady Dragons rode a six-run first inning to victory Thursday in Elberton.

Cason Anderson went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and run scored for Jefferson (13-5-1, 7-1 Region 8B-AA). Jordyn Whitfield and Summer Bartek both went 3-for-4, with Bartek adding two RBIs and run scored for the Lady Dragons.

Whitfield had an RBI and three runs scored for Jefferson, which opens play in the Morgan County Tournament against Monroe Area at 6 p.m. and Heritage at 9 tonight.

Volleyball

JEFFERSON WINS TWO OF THREE AT HOME: Led by Taylor Cramsey’s 32 kills and nine aces, the Lady Dragons defeated Athens Christian (25-8, 25-12) and Jackson County (25-15, 25-14) and lost to North Oconee (16-25, 25-23, 23-25) on Thursday. Cassie Metcalf had 13 aces and 11 kills, Amanda Daniel had 51 assists, seven aces and four kills, Eden Starnes had 17 kills and Sarah Wood had seven kills, five assists and two aces for Jefferson (22-6, 9-0 Area 8-A/AA).

Savanna Holland added three aces and five kills on the day for the Lady Dragons, who play host to Rabun County and East Hall at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

JOHNSON WINS TWO AT HOME: The Lady Knights defeated East Hall 25-15, 25-13 and Gainesville 25-20, 25-23 on Thursday in Oakwood.

Against East Hall, Caitlin Sloan had four aces, Brittany Panter had three aces and two digs and Britt Mimbs had three kills for Johnson (14-15, 3-3 Area 8B-AAA).

Kellsie Brisbois had four aces and Panter added four aces and five assists in the win over Gainesville. Lejavian Ratliff had three kills and Savannah Turk had three blocks and two kills for the Lady Knights.

In the other match of the day, Gainesville defeated East Hall 25-23, 26-24. Laura Beth Lorentz had five kills, two blocks and two digs on the day for Gainesville (4-10, 0-4 Area 8A-AAA). Anna Walker had seven kills, four aces and two blocks while Katelyn Whelchel had two kills, two assists and two blocks for the Lady Red Elephants. Johnson plays host to Gainesville and Oconee County at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

NORTH HALL WINS TWO OF THREE:
The Lady Trojans defeated North Forsyth 25-20, 25-15 and Tucker 25-16, 25-19 and lost to Norcross 29-31, 19-25 on Thursday in the Collins Hill Classic.

Kathryn Bell had 41 assists, 12 kills and seven aces, Lauren Gregory had 15 kills and 21 digs, Mary Kate Rushton had 11 kills, two blocks and three aces and Tess Patton had 10 kills and six blocks for North Hall.

Sarah Paschall had five kills, 12 digs, three aces and a block while Megan Cox had 35 digs and two aces for the Lady Trojans, who continue play in the Collins Hill Classic against Forsyth Central on Saturday.

FLOWERY BRANCH WINS TWO AT CEDAR SHOALS: The Lady Falcons defeated Alcovy (25-8, 25-9) and Cedar Shoals (25-14, 25-14) on Thursday in Athens.

Kenzi Grewett had 34 assists, seven aces and three kills on the day for Flowery Branch (11-5, 7-0 Area 8-AAAA).

Against Alcovy, Brittani Hill had four aces and four kills. Katherine McMillin had five kills and Amber Merchant added four kills against Cedar Shoals.

Alexis Love had 14 kills and five aces on the day for Flowery Branch, which visits Lambert at 6 p.m. Monday.

GEORGE WALTON 2, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 0: Mona Abraham had five kills, four aces and three digs as the Lady Lions lost Thursday in Gainesville.

Jamie Nixon added five kills for Lakeview (12-17, 5-5 Area 8-A/AA), which visits East Jackson at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
