The Buford High softball team opened play in the Brookwood Invitational at Collins Hill High on Wednesday with a 5-3 loss to Collins Hill and an 11-2 win over Whitewater.

Against Collins Hill, Karly Fullem took her first loss of the season (5-1) while Chelsie Thomas and Codi Ricketson each had a hit. Ricketson added two RBIs for Buford (13-4, 2-0 Region 6A-AA).

In the second game of the day, Melissa Dickie (6-3) earned the win from the circle, throwing a complete game with three strikeouts and no walks.

Fullem went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the Lady Wolves, while Lexi Overstreet went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Thomas went 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and three runs score and Cara Cole went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored for Buford, which plays at Decatur at 5:30 p.m. today.

LUMPKIN COUNTY 2, CHESTATEE 0 (TUESDAY): The Lady Indians scored twice in the first inning and rode the early 2-0 lead to victory.

Chestatee’s Ashley Payne went 2-for-3 and Sam Brown added a single for the Lady War Eagles, who play host to subregion leader White County at 5:55 p.m. today.
