The Riverside Military track and field team won the Region 8-A championship Saturday, racking up 151 points over the two-day event at Athens Academy.
Seven Eagles took home individual region championships as the team edged Hebron Christian (118.5 points) and Athens Academy (115). Even more claimed top-four finishes, which guarantees a spot in sectionals Saturday at Landmark Christian in Fairburn.
“The boys were unbelievable today,” Riverside Military coach Tim Cummings said. “Everybody outperformed what they were supposed to do on paper, and we had a lot of personal bests. I can’t express how proud I am of my guys and all the work they’ve put in for this.”
Charles Dimnwaobi won four region titles, taking the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.98 seconds and winning the 200-meter at 22.08. He was also a member of the first-place 400-meter and 1600-meter relay teams.
Antonio Copeland, Demaldi Lasisi, Isaac Teasley and Demarko Hooper each notched two titles apiece. Copeland and Lasisi ran on both relay teams, while Teasley coupled his 1600-meter relay championship with the triple jump title he won on the event’s opening day last Thursday.
Hooper won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.93 and ran a leg of the 400-meter relay race. Jareus Bong Dibongue also won the high jump last Thursday for Riverside Military.
