Behind a strong showing from several competitors, the Riverside Military track and field team took first place at the John Scott Hartness Invitational on Friday night at Franklin County High in Carnesville. The tournament featured nine higher-classification schools in Northeast Georgia.
Riverside Military’s Charles Dimnwaobi placed first in the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 2 inches.
He also won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.84 seconds.
James Brubek’s 12-foot pole vault was good for first place, as well.
The Eagles claimed second and third in the 800-meter race, with Leland Breskow notching a time of 2:09 and Mark Shoda clocking in at 2:12.
Brent Lowery had a good outing for Riverside Military in the distance races, placing fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:55.
He finished sixth in the 3200-meter event (11:19), one place behind teammate Nicholas James (11:16).
“This was a big meet for us,” Eagles coach Tim Cummings said. “To be able to go up to Franklin County and beat those guys was special. We’ve been working so hard, and I’m really proud of our team.”

1 win against Fannin County in Game 1 of a doubleheader Friday night in Gainesville.
The Trojans tied the game thanks to a two-run home run from Charlie Erickson after Jackson Latty reached on an error.
Wesley Smith was hit by a pitch, and pinch runner John Mark Montgomery scored on Hubbard’s double after stealing second base.
North Hall starting pitcher Caleb Clark allowed just two runs on six hits through six innings.
NORTH HALL 2, FANNIN COUNTY 1: The Trojans secured another walk-off win on Latty’s two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 2 of Friday’s doubleheader.
North Hall loaded the bases for Latty with one-out on walks from Dylan Lavender and Austin Adams, along with Taber Mongero reaching on a throwing error while trying to sacrifice bunt.
Reese Olson (5-0) earned the win, striking out nine batters in a complete-game performance.
The North Hall girls tennis team swept Greater Atlanta Christian in all five matches for a 5-0, Region 7-AAA win Friday in Lilburn. In singles, Anna Montgomery, Christen Barnes and Baylee Turner earned wins for the Lady Trojans (7-3, 3-0 region).
In doubles, it was Sydney Patterson/Annalise Gregory and Carsen Baumgardner/Raquel Kallab winning for North Hall. On Monday, North Hall visits Flowery Branch.

Anna Grady, Halie Windish and Caroline Wysocki each scored a goal as the Flowery Branch girls soccer team topped Clarke Central 3-1 on Friday night in Athens.
Allyson Lusco and Jessica Light contributed an assist apiece for the Lady Falcons (5-5-1, 2-1 Region 8-AAAAA), who travel to Johnson at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Flowery Branch’s Kelsey Mathis recorded six saves against Clarke Central.
FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 2, CLARKE CENTRAL 1: Fernando Castro and Jaden Harmon netted a goal each for the Falcons (7-3-1, 2-1 Region 8-AAAAA).
Luke Biasi and Carlos Servellon provided assists for Flowery Branch, which faces Johnson at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
LAKEVIEW ACADEMY GIRLS 3, PRINCE AVENUE 2: Meredith Tucker scored the winning goal for the Lady Lions with less than four minutes remaining in Friday night’s game.
Tucker also assisted on Carmen Wagner’s goal that put Lakeview Academy ahead 1-0 at halftime. Esther Suen netted the Lady Lions’ other goal thanks to an assist from Wagner.
EAST HALL BOYS 2, UNION COUNTY 1: Geizi Barrientos and Brandon Callahan tallied a goal apiece for the Vikings on Friday night in Gainesville.
Maury Ibarra assisted Barrientos’ goal, while Sergio Tucios assisted Callahan’s score. East Hall (8-2, 2-0 Region 7-AAA) plays again at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Gainesville.
UNION COUNTY GIRLS 6, EAST HALL 1: Samantha Camacho scored the only goal for the Lady Vikings (2-7-1, 0-2 Region 7-AAA).
