High school scoreboard: North Hall wins five-set volleyball match against Gainesville

Autumn Tucker’s 23 kills and 15 digs played a big role in North Hall rallying from a two-set deficit to defeat Gainesville 3-2 (23-25, 21-25, 25-12, 30-28, 15-10) on Thursday in Gainesville.

Setter Lily Paschall dished 28 assists and added 23 digs, one block and four kills. Melissa DeVerter fired eight kills with seven blocks and nine digs.

Savannah Roys led the attack with 17 kills, 18 assists and 18 digs. Freshman libero Isabella Appling tallied 10 service aces and 19 digs, while Bessie Bessie Winston recorded nine kills behind Roys.

The Lady Red Elephants will play in the Forsyth Challenge at West Forsyth and the Lady Trojans (4-1) play in the Battle at the Branch tournament on Saturday.

JOHNSON SWEEPS TRI-MATCH: The Lady Knights improved to 5-3 overall after recording a pair of staright-set victories over White County (25-11, 25-18) and Stephens County (25-10, 25-14) in a tri-match.

Grace Eidson led the attack with 12 kills, 11 service aces and 17 assists. Alivia Farley followed with nine kills and 15 assists. Julia Bowers recorded a team-high 10 digs.

The Lady Knights play in the Battle at the Branch tournament this weekend.

WEST HALL SPLITS TRI-MATCH: The Lady Spartans defeated Morgan County in straight sets (25-18, 25-23), but lost to Walton in the same fashion (25-9, 25-17) Thursday in Monroe.

Against Morgan County, Shelbie Conde led the Spartans’ attack with seven kills, while Amber Fite recorded four aces and 12 digs. Cadie Shirley (four kills) and Fite (four aces) led the efforts against George Walton.

FLOWERY BRANCH REMAINS UNBEATEN: The Lady Falcons (6-0) rallied from a set down to fend off the visiting Jackson County Lady Panthers in four competitive sets, 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-14).

Sophomore outside hitter Madison Dowdy led the attack with 16 kills and senior middle blocker Jena Killian followed with nine kills, two blocks and five service aces. Ashlyn Gibeau (14 assists) and senior Kyle McGuire (21) totaled 35 assists for the match.

EAST HALL SWEEPS TRI-MATCH TO STAY UNBEATEN: The Lady Vikings improved to 12-0 following two straight-set victories over Cedar Shoals (25-20, 25-15) and Putnam County (25-10, 25-12) at Cedar Shoals.

Holly Poole (four aces, four kills, one assist, two digs) and Tessa Rider (seven aces, four kills, two assists, 13 digs) scored 15 points apiece in the Lady Vikings’ attack.

Savannah Thellman dished a team-high 26 assists with two aces, six kills and five digs. Minette Maldonado (seven points) fired a team-high 11 kills with 15 digs.

The Lady Vikings travel to play Tallulah Falls and Habersham Central for a Tri-match at 5 p.m. on Aug. 23 in Tullulah Falls.

EAST HALL 4, UNION COUNTY 3: The Lady Vikings (4-3, 3-1 Region 7-AAA) were able to create just enough of a cushion early on to fend off the Lady Panthers (2-3, 1-3) and hold on in this Region 7-AAA matchup in Gainesville.

Peyton Turner highlighted a three-run surge for East Hall in bottom of the second inning, driving in two runs off a single. The Lady Vikings scored an additional run in the third frame.

The Lady Panthers scored two runs in the top of the fifth, and one in the top of the seventh on an error.

Lady Vikings pitcher Macy Banks tossed five shutout frames with five hits allowed, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout in her complete game showing from the mound.

Laken Chambers struck out six, but was charged with the loss after walking three and surrendering four runs in six innings.
