High school scoreboard: North Hall girls tennis team wins region championship
North Hall boys and girls teams to host first round of playoffs

North Hall’s girls tennis team locked up the Region 7-AAA title and a home match in the first round of the playoffs by defeating Greater Atlanta Christian 3-0 in the region championship Thursday at Dawson County.
The Lady Trojans will begin the playoffs next week against an opponent to be determined.

“The girls are really excited,” North Hall coach Bob Woodworth said. “They’re on cloud nine.”

Lauren Davis (6-1, 6-2) and Christen Barnes (6-0, 6-0) won in singles for North Hall. The Lady Trojans also got a win in doubles play from Carsen Baumgartner/Raquel Kallab (6-2, 6-3).

The North Hall boys finished as Region 7-AAA runners-up after losing to Greater Atlanta Christian 3-0. The Trojans will also host a first-round playoff game next week, though their opponent has not yet been determined.

Both the boys and girls team advanced to the state semifinals last year, where they lost to Marist.

BANKS ON TO STATE: Banks County’s boys tennis team won the Region 8-AA championship Wednesday with a win against Elbert. The victory gives the Leopards a bye in the first round of the state playoffs before they play the winner of Vidalia/Davidson Fine Arts in the second round.

Gabe Martin won in singles for Banks, defeating his opponent in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). Hunter Payne/Griffin Goodwin (6-2, 6-1) and Stetson Boswell/Tyler Morris (6-1, 6-1) produced doubles wins for the Leopards.

ST. PIUS X 4, JEFFERSON 2: Jefferson (15-10, 6-6 Region 8-AAAA) faces Madison County at 5:55 p.m. next Monday in Danielsville.
