The North Hall High boys cross country team took first place at the Northeast Georgia Championships on Saturday at Athens Christian. Trojans runner Ty McCormack ran a 16-minute, 18 second time to place first overall, as well as set a new meet record.
North Hall’s Cody Barger finished second (16:20), and Brandon Lawson placed seventh (16:57). Trice Sweet led North Hall’s girls to a third place finish, with a time of 20:52. Chance Martin placed first overall and led the Trojans’ junior varsity to a first place team finish.
North Hall takes part in the Berry Invitational next Saturday in Rome.
Softball
BUFORD 5, NORTH HALL 0: Melissa Dickie earned the win for the Lady Wolves with 11 strikeouts in the pitching circle and only allowed two hits in the Buford Invitational on Saturday in Buford. Whitney Wolfe and Madison Wynegar each had two hits for the Lady Wolves.
Lexi Overstreet had a two-run double for Buford.
Danielle Newbern had both of North Hall’s hits.
BUFORD 8, PROVIDENCE CHRISTIAN 0: Karly Fullem earned the win for the Lady Wolves with six strikeouts and only allowed two hits against Providence in the Buford Invitational. Fullem added three hits and an RBI at the plate. Alysha Rudnik and Kallie Case each had two hits for the Lady Wolves.
BUFORD 9, UNION COUNTY 2: Karly Fullem picked up her fifth win of the year by striking out five batters in four innings Saturday. The win gave Buford the gold division title of the Buford Invitational.
Alysha Rudnik hit a three-run home run to help power the Lady Wolves to victory.
Buford plays Oconee County on Wednesday at the University of Georgia.
NORTH HALL 1, UNION COUNTY 0: Megan Rogers struck out four batters and had two hits to lead the Lady Trojans to a win Saturday at the Buford Invitational.
North Hall visits Flowery Branch on Monday.
