Gainesville’s boys soccer team advanced to the Class AAAA quarterfinals with a 4-0 win against Lithia Springs on Tuesday in Lithia Springs.
Cesar Regaldo opened scoring for the Red Elephants (15-2-1) on a pass from Ricardo Gomez. Gomez found Eric Bonilla who netted Gainesville’s second goal.
The Red Elephants went up 3-0 with an own goal by Lithia Springs, and closed out scoring with a goal from Roberto Nunez, assisted by Darian Alarcon.
Gainesville visits the winner of the McIntosh/Thomas County Central game on Friday.
NORTH HALL BOYS 4, NORTH OCONEE 3: Jairo Barientos scored the go-ahead goal for the Trojans (13-4-1) with six minutes left in the second-round playoff match in Bogart on Tuesday, securing a spot in the Class AAA state quarterfinals this weekend.
With the win, North Hall advances to face Islands High on Saturday in Savannah.
Tied 3-3 late in the second half, North Hall put it in the back of the net after a corner kick from Enrique Casterjon. Casterjon scored a goal late in the first half for the Trojans to go up 3-1.
North Hall scored first on the night with a shot from Jake Stephens. After the Titans knotted the match 1-1, Hunter Carter made a shot to put North Hall ahead 2-1.
JOHNSON GIRLS PLACE SEVENTH IN SECTIONAL: With a team score of 320, the Lady Knights qualified for the Class AAAA state tournament after a seventh-place finish in the Class AAAA Sectional on Monday at Bull Creek Golf Course in Midland.
Jenny Barrett led Johnson with a 96, and Kristin Waters was second with a 102.
The Lady Knights will compete in the state tournament on May 19 at Waynesboro Country Club in Waynesboro.
FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS HEAD TO STATE: The Lady Falcons scored a 316 at the Class AAAAA Sectional on Monday at Canongate Golf Course in Sharpsburg. With the finish, Flowery Branch qualified for the Class AAAAA state tournament on May 19 at Jones Creek Golf Course in Augusta.
