Union County High senior Blake Gowder finished with nine RBIs in his team’s sweep of a doubleheader against Oglethorpe County on Saturday in Lexington.

In Game 1, Gowder had a three-run home run in the third inning and a three-run triple in the sixth inning as part of a 10-7 win for the Panthers (8-4, 4-3 Region 8-AA). Dalton Everett had two runs and two RBIs for Union County.

In Game 2, Gowder was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and the Panthers won 11-1 in six innings. Everett finished with three doubles and a pair of RBIs. Zach Odom had a two-run home run and Coleman Sullivan added a solo home run for the Panthers. Chaiz George earned the win with eight strikeouts on the mound for the Panthers.

Union County plays host to Dawson County at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Blairsville.

JEFFERSON 6, DAWSON COUNTY 0 (FRIDAY): Jake Fields threw a complete-game shut out and allowed just five hits against the Tigers on Friday in Jefferson. At the plate, Fields had a two-run home run for Jefferson (10-1, 7-0 Region 8-AA).

JEFFERSON 7, DAWSON COUNTY 6 (FRIDAY): In Game 2, Kyle Hardy had a two-run double and a solo home run for the Dragons. Lucas Redd was 3-for-3 for Jefferson.

Dawson County’s Luke Williamson was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Jefferson visits East Jackson at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday in Commerce.

Soccer

JOHNSON GIRLS 4, FLOWERY BRANCH 1: In a continuation game that started March 12, Bethany Johnson scored a pair of goals for the Johnson High girls soccer team in a 4-1 win against Flowery Branch on Saturday in Flowery Branch. Johnson’s second goal was on a 30-yard shot from the right touch line.

Kayla Madsen scored for the Lady Knights (6-4, 4-3 Region 7-AAA) between Johnson’s two goal shots.

Johnson, which has two straight region victories, visits West Hall at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Spartans Stadium.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 2, WEST HALL 1 OT (Frid)ay: Chestatee scored on a goal from Kelsey Neukum and assist from Sharon Sotelo to tie the game 1-all in the second half. In overtime, Chestatee’s (4-7-1, 2-5 Region 7-AAA) Morgan Dooley scored in the penalty kicks segment to secure the victory.

Chestatee plays host to third-ranked Creekview on Tuesday at War Eagles Stadium.

Lacrosse

GAINESVILLE 9, GREENBRIER 3: Billy Hallowes scored four goals and Irving Saldierna scored twice for the Red Elephants (4-6) in the third round of the West Forsyth tournament on Saturday in Cumming. Harrison Yarger, Jimmy Nguyen and Son Vu each scored once for the Red Elephants.

Caston Davis had two assists for Gainesville, which visits Lambert at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday in Suwanee.

Tennis

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 3, ATHENS CHRISTIAN 2 (Friday): Seth Black and Jackson Beck earned singles victories for the Lions on Friday in Gainesville. Lakeview’s doubles team of Matt Morris and Alex Klecan picked up a victory.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY GIRLS 3, ATHENS CHRISTIAN 2 (Friday): Niki Patel and Jackie Burleson won singles matches for the Lady Lions on Friday in Gainesville. Cree Nix and Komal Patel won in doubles for Lakeview Academy.

Golf

COLE EARNS WIN AT TOURNEY: Gainesville’s Camryn Cole, who shot an 82, was the low medallist out of 36 girls playing in the 2nd Annual Spartan Lanier Challenge on Saturday at Legacy on Lanier.

West Hall’s Mallorie Smith (98) and Natalie Mathias (104) along with Cole made the day’s all-tournament team.

On the boys side, Flowery Branch’s Eric Little (83) made the all-tournament team. He was the only Hall County participant out of the 89 players from across the North Georgia region who participated to earn that distinction.
