With a nine-hole score of 153, the Lumpkin County boys golf team retained the lead in the Border Challenge against Johnson and North Forsyth on Thursday at Achasta.

Low medalist for the match was Aaron George, who carded a 34 for the Indians.

Lumpkin County’s Everett Huntsinger shot a 38, Austin Booker a 39 and Cody Fleming a 42.

The round brings the Indians’ overall score to 305 to lead Johnson’s 318 and North Forysth’s 325.

Scorers for the Knights were Josh Foster (39), Grant Cagle (41), Michael Dunham (41) and Clint Reeves (43) to give Johnson a round of 164.

The final leg of the Challenge will be April 12 at Hampton Village.

Johnson next plays Saturday at the Warner Robins Invitational. Lumpkin County plays North Hall at 3:30 p.m. March 30 at Achasta.


Ralston Cash pitched six innings, giving up no runs and striking out 14 to lead the Lions to victory Thursday in Hiawassee.

Cash also went 2-for-5 with two RBIs at the plate for Lakeview Academy (11-2, 7-0 Region 8-A).

Lakeview’s Taylor Simpson went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double.

Tyler Young went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double for the Lions, who visit Riverside Military at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

BUFORD 11, BLESSED TRINITY 6: Woody Ciepiela went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double for the Wolves on Thursday at Blessed Trinity.

Jamie Ritchie went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double for Buford (9-3, 1-1 Region 6-AA).

Buford travels to Great Atlanta Christian at 5:30 p.m. today.

CREEKVIEW 4, EAST HALL 3 (WEDNESDAY): Drew Adams went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Greg Edwards went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Wednesday in Canton.

C.J. White went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Vikings (2-10, 1-4 Region 7-AAA).

East Hall plays Gainesville at 5:55 p.m. today at Ivey-Watson Field.


Clint Hawkins scored the only Eagles goal off an assist from Jacob Friedland on Wednesday in Tiger.

Riverside Military (5-3-1, 1-1 Area 8-AA) plays host to East Jackson at 4 p.m. today.


CHESTATEE GIRLS 5, GILMER 0 (WEDNESDAY): Singles players Amy Werner, Melissa Bailey and Christine Mitchell combined with the doubles teams of Emily Elder/Tiffani Poole and Carly Dale/Sarah Beth Tankersley to sweep Gilmer on Wednesday.

Chestatee (5-4, 4-4 Region 7-AAA) visits North Hall at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 4, WEST HALL 1 (WEDNESDAY): With a sweep of singles by Mady Wuest, Hunter Lane and Kate Callahan, the Lady Red Elephants won Wednesday at home.

West Hall’s only win came from the doubles team of Kayla Brady and Sunny Xayavongsa.

The doubles team of Logan Brown and Joy Bauerband also won for Gainesville.

WEST HALL BOYS 4, GAINESVILLE 1 (WEDNESDAY): With singles wins from Connor McFall and Max Wilson and doubles wins from the teams of Tyler Burgamy/Jimmy Kincaid and Nathan Turner/Andrew Johnson, the Spartans won Wednesday at Bobby Bailey Tennis Center.

Ryan Joiner had the lone win for the Red Elephants.

West Hall (11-3) plays host to West Forsyth at 4 p.m. today.

LAMBERT BOYS 3, WEST HALL 2 (TUESDAY): Max Wilson and the team of Jimmy Kincaid/Tyler Burgamy had the only wins for the Spartans Tuesday in Oakwood.
