Led by a strong showing in the field events, including a pair of first-place finishes from Jason Kles, the Jefferson boys track team took second place in a 16-team field Saturday at the Greater Atlanta Christian School Invitational.
Kles won the shot put with a throw of 50 feet, nine inches, and the discus (144-04). Sky Porter won the triple jump (42-11.5) and took second in the long jump (20-11.5), while Derrick Perkins finished second in the triple jump (41-7), won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.52 and took fourth in the 300 hurdles (42.42).
Tyler Porter, who recently accepted a track scholarship offer to Tennessee, won the pole vault (15-0).
At the same meet, the Buford boys finished fourth, and Dawson County finished fifth in the girls competition.
The Wolves got a boost from their sprinters with C.J. Moore (11.18) and Michael Fortson (11.34) taking the top two spots in the 100 and leading the 4 x 100 relay team to a win.
For Dawson County, Madalyn Walters led the way, placing third in the 1600 (5:36) and second in the 3200 (12:02).
GAINESVILLE WINS FB MEET: The Gainesville boys won the Flowery Branch Invitational on Saturday, led by Blake Sims and Paul Malquist.
Sims took first place in the 100 and 200, while Malquist won in the pole vault and 300 hurdles. Sims and Malquist also teamed with Justin Owens and Chris West to win the 4 x 100 relay.
West added another blue ribbon, winning the high jump.
Tennis
JOHNSON GIRLS 5, WEST HALL 0 (THURSDAY): The Lady Knights dominated singles play and swept past West Hall on Thursday at Alberta Banks Park.
Cady Nix, Kamy Field and Maggie Turner won in singles action, dropping just two sets. Claire Crain and Harlee Robinson won 6-1, 6-3 in No. 1 doubles, while Lauren Houston and Carlyn Ivey won 6-2, 6-2 in No. 2 doubles.
