The Jefferson High baseball team emerged with a 3-2 and 7-6 sweep of Union County during a double header on Friday in Blairsville.

Jake Fields and Lucas Redd each had a home run in the first game for the Dragons.

Jamie Sexton got the win for Jefferson. Panthers starting pitcher Chaiz George recorded 14 strikeouts in the loss.

Blake Gowder had a two-run home run for Union County.

With the score tied 6-6 in Game 2, Jason Demos doubled in the top of the sixth inning to drive in the winning run, improving Jefferson’s record to 7-1, 4-0 in Region 8-AA. 

Demos was 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

Brady McCarter hit two home runs for Union County (5-4, 1-3 Region 8-AA).

The Panthers play host to Rabun County at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Jefferson travels to Oglethorpe County at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

JACKSON COUNTY 9, STEPHENS COUNTY 8:
Austin Robinson improved his record to 4-0 with a five-strikeout performance in relief for the Panthers (9-1, 2-1 in Region 8-AAA) on Friday in Jefferson. 

Rob Williams (2-for-4) and Quinn Grogan (2-for-3) each had a double for the Panthers.

Trey Sorrells went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Jackson County.

Jackson County visits Eastside at 5:55 p.m. Monday in Conyers.

WEST FORSYTH 12, FLOWERY BRANCH 5: Cory Sanderson went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs for the Falcons on Friday in Flowery Branch.

Robby Boudreau and freshman C.J. Navin each finished 3-for-4 for Flowery Branch.

Flowery Branch (0-9) visits East Hall at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

WHITE COUNTY 7, GILMER 2: Warriors starter David Sosebee had 13 strikeouts for the Warriors on Friday in Ellijay.

Sosebee also went 2-for-5 at the plate with a double.

Luke Crumley went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs and Cody Ansley went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Marcus Rider went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

White County (8-1, 3-0 Region 7-AAA) plays host to North Hall at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Soccer

WEST HALL BOYS 3, FORSYTH CENTRAL 1: Felix Ramierez scored two goals and had one assist for the Spartans on Friday in Cumming.

Elvin Mendieta scored one goal for West Hall (6-2, 4-0 Region 7-AAA).

The Spartans travel to Central Gwinnett at 5 p.m. today.

GAINESVILLE BOYS 3, WEST FORSYTH 0: Ross Puckett, Gabriel Osorio and Merly Velasquez each scored a goal for the Red Elephants Friday in Cumming.

Irving Delgado had two assists for Gainesville (7-0, 5-0 Region 7-AAA).

Velasquez also had an assist for the Red Elephants who are ranked No.5 in the state.

Gainesville (7-0, 5-0 Region 7-AAA) faces Chestatee at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 7, BUFORD 3: Leo Manzo and Phillip Abrahamsen lead the way for the Falcons with two goals each in the win at home Friday.

Michael Smith, Jorge Bustillos and Christian Manzo each added one goal for Flowery Branch, which travels to Lumpkin County at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

JOHNSON BOYS 7, LUMPKIN COUNTY 0:
Ruben Castro and Chris Henry each had two goals for Johnson (6-2, 3-1 Region 7-AAA) on Friday in Dahlonega.

Vincente Trujillo, Edgar Ochoa and Juan Morfin each had a goal for the Knights

JOHNSON GIRLS 7, LUMPKIN COUNTY 0:
Kayla Madsen’s hat trick lead the way for the Lady Knights on Friday in Dahlonega.

Stephanie Johnson scored two goals and Anaelly Contreras and K.K. Dumanowski each scored one for Johnson (4-3, 2-2 Region 7-AAA).

Contreras also had three assists in the game. 

Keeper Kat Tinchen had the shutout for the Lady Knights who visit North Hall at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

BUFORD GIRLS 3, FLOWERY BRANCH 0: Liz Darden, Lindsey White and Jacey Chandler each had one goal for the Lady Wolves on Friday in Flowery Branch.

White also had an assist for Buford (5-2, 0-2 Region 6-AA).

Keeper Caitlin Hollis had the shutout for Buford which travels to Shiloh at 5 p.m. today. 

Tennis

RIVERSIDE MILITARY 5, DAWSON COUNTY 0 (THURSDAY): Singles players Eric Gfesser, Austin Huck and Josh Myers combined with the doubles teams of Luke Klaer/Chris Reed and Eric Chow/Austin Johnson to sweep the Tigers in Gainesville on Friday.

The Eagles, who won in straight sets, travel to Fannin County at 4 p.m Thursday.

Lacrosse

GAINESVILLE BOYS 15, DULUTH 5: Irving Saldierna scored five goals and Dale Morley added 12 saves for the Red Elephants on Friday in Duluth. Jimmy Nguyen (four goals), Billy Hallowes (3) and Son Vu (2) also scored for Gainesville.
Gainesville plays host to Riverside at 5 p.m. Tuesday at City Park.
