The Lumpkin County boys golf team leads Johnson and North Forsyth after the first round of the Border Challenge that started on Thursday at Royal Lakes.

The Border Challenge consists of three matches with cumulative scoring.

The Indians shot a 9-hole score of 152 to lead Johnson’s 154 and North Forsyth’s 167. Austin Booker had a 3-under 33 with Everett Huntsinger (38), Aaron George (40) and Joseph Jerrard (41) rounding out the Indians’ foursome.

Grant Cagle’s 3-under, combined with Michael Dunum’s 38, Clint Reeds’ 40, and Josh Foster’s 43 gave Johnson a second-place standing going into the second round. The three teams meet again for 18 holes at 4 p.m. Thursday at Achasta.

The teams will meet for a third time for nine holes at The Hampton Golf Village on a date and time to be determined.

LAMBERT GIRLS 93, WEST HALL 112: Mallory Smith shot a 53 and Caitlin VanDenHandle shot a 59 for the Lady Spartans at Laurel Springs golf course on Thursday.

West Hall plays Habersham Central at Apple Mountain at 3:45 p.m. Monday.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 93, NORTH FORSYTH 97, JOHNSON 114: Camryn Cole shot a 42 to combine with Lyla Cooley’s 51 to give the Lady Red Elephants the victory on Thursday at Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Lauren Mumpower and Keely LeFevre both fired a 57 for the Lady Knights.

Gainesville visits North Forsyth at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Baseball

GAINESVILLE 16, LUMPKIN COUNTY 6: Michael Lorentz went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and hit a grand slam for the Red Elephants at Ivey-Watson Field on Thursday.

Anderson Loggins was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, one RBI and a home run for Gainesville.

Stephen Mason, David Gonzalez and Hunter Anglin each had two hits for Gainesville (7-1, 2-0 Region 7-AAA).

The Red Elephants visit West Forsyth at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

NORTH HALL 9, FLOWERY BRANCH 0: Jacob Brewster threw 6 1/3 innings and struck out seven to earn the win Thursday in Flowery Branch.

Jackson Coker had three hits and Ryan Pitts had a triple for the Trojans (5-3, 2-0 Region 7-AAA).

North Hall plays host to Creekview at 7 p.m. Friday.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 11, ATHENS CHRISTIAN 5: Taylor Simpson struck out six while going 3-for-3 with two RBIs at the plate for the Lions on Thursday in Gainesville.

Jacob Whitenton was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Ross Biegler was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the win.

Lakeview Academy (6-2, 3-0 Region 8-A) plays host to Commerce at 4:30 p.m. today.

Tennis

NORTH HALL BOYS 4, WHITE COUNTY 1: Mitch McCray, Sam Taylor and the teams of Eli LoCicero/Charlie Hortenstine and Jack Hortenstine/Joe Nedza each won for the Trojans on Thursday in Cleveland.

No.1 singles player Thomas Flowers had the lone win for the Warriors.

North Hall (7-2, 6-0 Region 7-AAA) plays host to Lumpkin at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The Warriors also play Lumpkin County next when they travel to Dahlonega at 4 p.m. March 25.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 5, GAINESVILLE 0: The Lady Falcons didn’t lose a set on Thursday in Gainesville.

Singles players Anna Kate Shaw, Elizabeth Mallory and Morgan Reed combined with the doubles teams of Nicki Price/Molly Smith and Lindsey Shaw/Bekki Benton for the sweep. Flowery Branch travels to Central Gwinnett at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

NORTH HALL GIRLS 3, WHITE COUNTY 2: With one singles victory and two doubles victories, the Lady Trojans won in Cleveland on Thursday.

Kathryn Bell had the lone singles victory for North Hall, while Mary Alexander and Sara Beth Cummins each won for White County.

The doubles teams of Cara Reece/Morgan Van Meter and Valerie Bohannon/Kari Butts won in straight sets for North Hall, which plays host to Lumpkin County at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The Lady Warriors also play Lumpkin County next when they travel to Dahlonega at 4 p.m. March 25.

Soccer

WHITE COUNTY GIRLS 5, EAST HALL 0:
Kaitlyn Hooper scored five goals for the Lady Warriors on Thursday in Cleveland.

Kayla Everett, Savannah Castles, Haley Rumford and Liz Granados each recorded one assist for White County (4-5, 1-2 Region 7-AAA).

The Lady Warriors travel to West Forsyth at 5:45 Tuesday.

NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN GIRLS 3, CUMBERLAND CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 0: Freshman Madison Dunn and Kayla Goodson led the Lady Chargers to victory Thursday at Allen Creek.

Dunn had two goals and Goodson had one for North Georgia (4-2).

The Lady Chargers travel to Stockbridge to take on Community Christian at 4 p.m. March 26.

CREEKVIEW GIRLS 2, FLOWERY BRANCH 0:
Despite eight shots on goal and an 18-save performance from keeper Lauren Dunn, the Lady Falcons lost Thursday in Canton.

Flowery Branch plays host to Buford at 5 p.m. today.

RIVERSIDE MILITARY BOYS 4, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 1 (WEDNESDAY): With 18 shots on goal the Eagles won Wednesday in Gainesville.

Clinton Hawkins and Luis Carlos Rodriquez each scored in the first half and Rodriquez and Adam Stokes both scored in the second.

Riverside Military (4-1-1, 1-0 Region 8-AA) takes its three-game winning streak on the road when the Eagles visit Chestatee at 7:30 tonight.

Lakeview Academy travels to Union County at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
