The top-ranked Buford Wolves saw their 32-game win streak come to an end with an interception on the final play of the game losing to Lovett 28-21 on Friday night in Atlanta.
Junior quarterback Alex Ross was 18-for-34 for 214 yards and two touchdowns for the Wolves (2-1, 0-1 Region 6-AA).
Sherman Page had eight receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown and Jessel Curry caught six for 72 yards adding another touchdown for Buford.
Wolves sophomore full back Nathan Staub scored on a 1-yard touchdown with 5:10 left in the fourth quarter.
Buford takes a week off and plays host to Decatur Sept. 25 at Tom Riden Stadium.
RIVERSIDE 20, RABUN COUNTY 6: Senior quarterbacks Alex O’Donnell and Lucas Bersin combined for 197 yards in the air to help the Eagles (2-1, 2-0 Region 8-AA) defeat Rabun County on Friday in Clayton.
The Eagles play host to North Oconee at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Gainesville.
FRANKLIN 21, COMMERCE 14: With 16 seconds left in the game, Commerce’s sophomore quarterback Cody Streetman was flushed from the pocket and brought down at the 6-yard line as the clock ran out, securing the win for Franklin County on Friday night in Commerce.
Deon Brock led the Tigers (1-2) on the ground with 159 yards and two touchdowns: one on a 58-yard rush and the other on a 60-yard rush.
Streetman threw for 70 yards and John Cash caught two passes for 40 yards.
Commerce plays host to Lincoln County on Sept. 25.
NORTH OCONEE 31, UNION COUNTY 30: Union County lost in double overtime on a failed two-point conversion against North Oconee on Friday in Bogart.
North Oconee’s quarterback Brandon Whitlock led the Titans with 102 rushing yards on 28 carries, one of which was a first quarter 75-yard touchdown run.
Whitlock added two touchdowns on the ground with one in the air for the Titans.
Union County (2-1, 1-1 Region 8-AA) senior quarterback Kolt Owenby led the Panthers’ offense throwing three touchdown passes to Blake Gowder, Jared Peterson and Caylan Tanner.
Jesse Wright recovered a punt block in the first quarter adding a touchdown for Union County and with 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter Union County senior Michael Aiken kicked a 43-yard field goal to tie the game.
Union County plays host to East Jackson at 7:30 p.m. next Friday in Blairsville.
BALLARD CHRISTIAN 56, NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN 18: Quarterback Joe Boonstra led the Chargers going 10-for-13 with 165 yards in the air and two touchdowns in their loss to Ballard Christian in Ellijay.
Andrew Pulliam had a 60-yard return on a fumble recovery for a touchdown and Zach Pendley led in receiving with 104 yards and a touchdown.
North Georgia Christian plays host to Ballard at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
CLARKE CENTRAL 23, HABERSHAM CENTRAL 7: Junior David Griffin led Habersham Central with a 40-yard rush for a touchdown against Clarke Central in Athens.
Kevin Ellison had 62 yards on 12 carries for the Raiders.
The Raiders play host to Loganville at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Mount Airy.
GILMER 35, WEST HALL 18: Junior quarterback Shunquez Stephens was 27-for-41 with 319 yards and three touchdowns in West Hall’s loss to Gilmer in Elijay.
Brandon Fuqua led West Hall in receptions with 13 catches for 128 yards.
The Spartans play host to White County at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
COPPER BASIN (Tenn.) 7, TOWNS COUNTY 6: With 10 minutes left in the game, Towns County missed the tying extra point and Copper Basin secured the win.
Landon Harris had two sacks and 11 tackles to lead the Indians defensively, while senior quarterback Matt Beni led the offense, rushing for 75 yards and passing for 60 and a touchdown.
The Indians play host to Hayesville (NC) at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Hiawassee.
