High school scoreboard: Lions win 20th of the season

The Lakeview Academy baseball team won its 20th game of the year with a 12-2 defeat of Athens Christian on Thursday in Athens.

Tyler Ward allowed four hits and one walk in a complete game performance while going 2-for-5 with two RBIs at the plate for Class A’s second-ranked Lions (20-1, 13-0 Region 8-A)

Brett Armour was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs for Lakeview, which has won 13 straight. Haughton Carswell was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Ross Biegler and Nick Saye each added two hits for the Lions.

Lakeview plays host to Commerce at 4:30 p.m. today.

White County 9, West Forsyth 5

The Warriors scored six runs in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie and secure their fourth straight win Thursday in Cleveland.

Kyle Mills earned the win in relief for White County (13-9, 11-9 Region 7-AAA), holding the Wolverines to four hits in the last four innings.

Luke Crumley lead the Warriors at the plate with two hits and three runs scored. Hayden Cummins, Kevin Frederick and David Sosebee also had two hits.

West Forsyth was led by Tommy Ferguson and Chris Rubessa, who each had two hits.

White County plays host to North Hall at 5:30 p.m. today.

Creekview 6, Flowery Branch 2

The Grizzlies outmatched the Falcons in a rain-shortened game Thursday in Canton.

James Wilson led Flowery Branch (17-5, 16-5 Region 7-AAA) with two hits. Bucky Free and Robby Boudreau also had hits for the Falcons.

Flowery Branch visits Gilmer at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

TENNIS

Riverside Military 3, Rockmart 2


The Eagles opened the Class AA state playoffs by edging Region 7-AA’s second seed Rockmart on Wednesday in Rockmart.
Riverside secured victory with a doubles sweep by Andres Osegueda/Joe Barrow and Luke Klaer/David Mueller.

Joe Kowalski was the lone singles winner for the Eagles, winning in three sets.

Riverside plays host to Greater Atlanta Christian in the second round of the state playoffs Wednesday.

Oconee County boys 5, West Hall 0

The Spartans concluded their season with a first-round loss to Class AAA’s second-ranked Oconee County on Thursday in Bogart.

West Hall completes its season with a 12-9 record.

St. Francis boys 3, Lakeview Academy 1

The Lions’ concluded their season with a first-round loss in the Class A state playoffs Thursday in Gainesville.

Nekhil Patel was the lone winner for Lakeview with a win at No. 1 singles.

St. Francis plays host to Holy Innocents in the second round of the state playoffs Wednesday. Lakeview’s season is now complete.

TRACK AND FIELD

Trojans boys and girls win tri-meet (Tuesday)

The North Hall boys and girls track teams defeated Buford and East Hall on Tuesday at North Hall High.

Peyton Wilhoite set a new Trojans record in the discus with a throw of 140-feet, 5-inches.

Other North Hall boys winners were Nolan Clark in the 1,600 meter (4 minutes, 30 seconds), Brandon Lawson in the 800 (2:05), Randy Olson in the 200 (23.66) and David Heidkamp in the 300 hurdles (45.10).

The Lady Trojans’ winners were Ali Grace Hutchings in the discus (75-1), Margret Coleman in the pole vault (6-6), Laura Mancin in the 1,600 (6:07), Sallie Davis in the 400 (1:05.93) and Taylor Bishop in the 300 hurdles (55.54). North Hall’s 4x400 team also finished first (4:37).
