Buford (15-2 overall; 2-0 Area 8-AAAAA) picked up their first area wins against Loganville (25-7, 25-9) and Flowery Branch (25-11, 25-8) in a tri-match Thursday.
Tatum Shipes led the Lady Wolves’ attack nine kills and three blocks. Avery Cason added eight kills and four blocks. Gabby Curry finished with five service aces against Loganville.
Against Flowery Branch, Shipes fired seven kills, while Curry added six kills. Morgan Mitchell aided the Lady Wolves attack with 20 assists.
Flowery Branch (14-3, 0-2 Area 8-AAAAA) fell to Loganville in straight-set fashion (25-22, 25-17). Madison Dowdy led the Lady Falcons with 16 kills and four digs. Libero Madison Myers finished with 21 digs, while Anna Marshall finished with two kills, four blocks and had one ace.
The Falcons host Johnson at the Branch on Tuesday. This is the Lady Falcons’ annual CURE Childhood Cancer Night.
Buford hosts Cedar Shoals and Clarke Central at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
NORTH HALL SPLITS TRI-MATCH: Lily Paschall racked up 33 assists, four aces,and 12 digs for the Lady Trojans. North Hall (12-6) defeated Jefferson in straight sets (25-11 25-14), before falling to Mountain View in the same fashion (25-15 25-22).
Lady Trojans’ Melissa DeVerter had 15 kills, eight blocks and 12 digs. Autumn Tucker finished with 14 kills, 15 digs, and one block. Caroline Brady (four kills, two blocks, seven digs) Madison Brock (four kills, two digs) and Lena Strickland (20 digs, one ace) were others to contribute.
North Hall visits Collins Hill Saturday in Suwanee.
JOHNSON SPLITS TRI-MATCH: Johnson (12-11 overall; 1-1 Area 8-AAAAA) Emily Pena racked up 20 points serving and totaled five aces Thursday. Johnson lost to Walnut Grove 2-1 (18-25, 25-23, 14-25). Johnson beat Cedar Shoals 2-0 (25-12, 25-16).
Julia Bowers tallied five aces, 11 digs, while Grace Eidson finished with seven aces, 11 kills, 11 assists, and 15 digs for the Lady Knights. Emma Hernandez finished with eight kills, five blocks. Alivia Farley had eight assists and nine digs.
Johnson plays visits Flowery Branch on Tuesday in Flowery Branch.
EAST HALL 8, DAWSON COUNTY 0: East Hall (9-5 overall; 6-2 Region 7-AAA) Lady Vikings’ Starting pitcher Macy Banks pitched a six-inning shutout, allowing just five hits with two strikeouts.
East Hall scored in the sixth on an RBI-double by Jennifer Lopez, an RBI-double by Carley Cox, and a two-run single by Steffanie Redmon.
Peyton Turner racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Lady Vikings, singling in the first and sixth innings.
The Lady Vikings took the lead in the first frame, scoring four runs on a fielder’s choice and two singles.
East Hall hosts Jefferson at 1 p.m., Saturday in Gainesville.
BLESSED TRINITY 4, CHESTATEE 0: Chestatee’s (14-4) Rebecca Eddins pitched six innings and had four strike outs in Thursdays losing effort against Blessed Trinity. Georgia Patterson and Katilyn Babb were the only ones to get one hit off of opposing pitcher Hayden Lehman on Thursday.
Chestatee travels to Oakwood to face West Hall at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
BUFORD 4, WALNUT GROVE 0: The defending Class 4A Champion Lady Wolves (11-1 overall; 2-0 Region 8-AAAAA) had plenty of help from starting pitcher Logan Caymol, who pitched a complete-game one hitter, with a career-high 13 strikeouts in the win against the Class 4A runnerup Lady Warriors.
Gabby Benson had a double, three RBIs, Mariah Wicker had two runs, and Arielle Oda had two runs.
Buford faces Flowery Branch at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday in Buford.
