Gainesville High’s volleyball team finished third in its pool at the Athens Academy Invitational on Saturday in Athens. The Lady Red Elephants (12-10; 2-0 Area 8-AAAAAA) opened pool play with a straight-set (26-24, 27-25) win over Habersham Central before falling to Wesleyan in straight sets (25-18, 25-14). Gainesville rallied from a set down to top George Walton Academy 2-1 (23-25, 25-20, 15-8), though fell short in a competitive semifinal match to tournament host Athens Academy in straight sets (25-21, 25-21).
