High school scoreboard: Jefferson softball rallies for victory

The Jefferson High softball team rallied to beat Providence Christian 2-1 on Tuesday at Jefferson.

Jefferson (3-3) tied the game in the bottom of the fifth and won it in the sixth.

Designated hitter Lindsey Miles led the way at the plate for Jefferson, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Paige Pate and Anna Alexander also added a hit each for the Lady Dragons.

Kara Perry picked up the win in the circle, pitching a complete game with three strikeouts while giving up three hits.

Jefferson returns to action at 5:55 p.m. Monday at Wesleyan.

WEST HALL 16, JOHNSON 1, 3 INNINGS: Starting pitcher Miranda Miller had six strikeouts for the Lady Spartans in their win Tuesday at West Hall.

Miller also helped the Lady Spartans (5-2, 1-0 Region 7-AAA) at the plate going 2-for-3. Bailey Soucie was also 2-for-3 with a double and triple. Madison Strickland ended the game in the third inning with a three-run double.

VOLLEYBALL

Johnson splits at Hart County

The Lady Knights beat Hart County (25-18, 20-25, 25-18) and then lost to Morgan County (25-22, 25-21) on Tuesday at Hart County.

In Johnson’s win, the Lady Knights were led by Mary Fiorentino with four aces and four kills, Caitlin Sloan with two blocks and six kills, Shelley Farley with five kills and eight assists and Britt Mimbs with five kills.

Johnson plays host to Collins Hill and North Hall at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Buford goes 1-1 at West Hall

The Lady Wolves lost their first match to West Hall (25-20, 12-25, 25-18), but came back to defeat Madison County (25-13, 25-16) on Tuesday in Oakwood. Buford (1-1) was led by Nancy Mattox with four kills, Hannah Parets with nine kills and Morgan Nash with eight assists.

Buford returns to action at 7 p.m. Thursday at East Hall.

West Hall sweeps Buford, Madison County

West Hall beat the Lady Wolves (25-20, 12-25, 25-18) and the Lady Red Raiders (25- 20, 25-19) on Tuesday in Oakwood.

Leading the Lady Spartans (2-0) was Kristen Holmes with 11 kills, Nicolette Ashley with 21 digs and Sadie Cornett with six aces. Erica Grainger added six assists for West Hall.
