East Hall basektball sweeps Union County

After going into halftime tied at 27 with seventh-ranked Union County on Tuesday in Blairsville, the tenth-ranked East Hall boys outscored the Panthers 30-17 in the final two periods to take the 57-44 victory and firm command of first place in Region 8A-AA.

Kymon Woods scored 15 points to lead East Hall (13-5, 5-0).

Joshua Hampton and Chris Orr each added 10 points for the Vikings, who host Dawson County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Union County (15-1, 3-1 Region 8A-AA) was led by Skylar Smith’s 16 points and Seth Merritt’s 15. The Panthers host Fannin County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

EAST HALL GIRLS 70, UNION COUNTY 20: Led by 15 points from Jasmine Jenkins and 14 points from Morgan Jackson, the Lady Vikings won Tuesday in Blairsville.

Kayleigh Lunsford added 11 points for East Hall (10-7, 3-2 Region 8A-AA), which hosts Dawson County at 7 p.m. Friday.
Rebecka Merritt’s seven points led Union County, which hosts Fannin County at 7 p.m. Friday.

NORTH HALL GIRLS 44, CHESTATEE 39: Trailing by one entering the final period, the Lady Trojans were in danger of losing their third straight meeting with the sixth-ranked Lady War Eagles, but they outscored Chestatee 17-11 in the fourth quarter to earn the win Tuesday at Chestatee.

Mary Kate Rushton scored 15 points to lead North Hall (9-10, 4-1 Region 8A-AAA), while McKenna Rushton scored 11 points and Sarah Paschall added 13 rebounds.

North Hall hosts Lumpkin County at 7 p.m. Friday.

For Chestatee (16-3, 4-1 8A-AAA), Peyton Robertson had a game-high seven rebounds, but was limited to just six points. Erin Clifford led the Lady War Eagles with nine points, while Rachel Kelly added eight points and five rebounds.

Chestatee plays Stephens County at 7 p.m. Friday in Toccoa.

NORTH HALL BOYS 64, CHESTATEE 36: Led by 12 points from Ethan Smith and 10 points from C.J. Curry, the Trojans won Tuesday at Chestatee.

Thirteen players scored for North Hall (12-7, 4-1 Region 8A-AAA), which hosts Lumpkin County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Keelan Passmore led Chestatee with 19 points. The War Eagles visit Stephens County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

WEST HALL BOYS 68, LANIER 46: Shunquez Stephens scored 20 points and Dre Pou added 14 for the Spartans in the win Tuesday in Sugar Hill.

Jarquise Young scored 10 points for No. 4 West Hall (17-3, 8-0 Region 8B-AAA), which visits Walnut Grove at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

WEST HALL GIRLS 45, LANIER 17: Led by 15 points from Amber Johnson, the Lady Spartans won Tuesday in Sugar Hill.

Maia Booker added 10 points for West Hall (8-13, 3-5 8B-AAA), which held Lanier to single-digit scoring in each quarter.

The Lady Spartans visit Walnut Grove at 7 p.m. Friday.

GAINESVILLE BOYS 56, WALNUT GROVE 40: Shaquan Cantrell’s 21 points led the Red Elephants to the win Tuesday in Loganville.

Quon Holcomb added 18 points and Tray Harrison had eight assists for Gainesville (12-6, 5-2 Region 8B-AAA), which visits Johnson at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

RIVERSIDE MILITARY 48, ATHENS ACADEMY 31: Tarvin Dukes scored 20 points and Adrian Humphrey added 13 to lead the Eagles to the win Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Riverside (6-7, 5-4 Region 8A-A) outscored Athens Academy 24-13 in the second half.

The Eagles play George Walton at 6 p.m. Friday in Monroe.

MADISON COUNTY GIRLS 45, FLOWERY BRANCH 36: Tavia Sykes had 10 points for Flowery Branch (5-13) in the loss Tuesday in Madison. The Lady Falcons host Apalachee at 6 p.m. Friday.

MADISON COUNTY BOYS 73, FLOWERY BRANCH 67: Rudy DeAza scored 14 points, Tyler McBroom scored 12 and Quincy Hodges added 10 in the loss Tuesday in Madison.Flowery Branch (4-14) hosts Apalachee at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

BUFORD GIRLS 63, BLESSED TRINITY 34: Kaela Davis scored 17 points and Andraya Carter added 14 as the No. 2 Lady Wolves continued to roll Tuesday night in Buford.Karly Fullem added 11 points for Buford (15-1, 10-0 Region 6A-AA), which jumped out to a 25-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Wolves visit Clarkston at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

BUFORD BOYS 54, BLESSED TRINITY 41:
Alex Flagler scored 18 points and T.J. Shipes scored 12 for the ninth-ranked Wolves on Tuesday at home.

Buford (12-3, 4-1 Region 6A-AA) visits Clarkston at 7 p.m. Friday.

JOHNSON GIRLS 65, MONROE AREA 41:
Caitlin Sloan scored 14 points and Ryleigh Shannon had 10 assists in the win Tuesday in Monroe.

Sloan added seven rebounds and four steals for Johnson (12-7, 6-1 Region 8B-AAA), which hosts Gainesville at 7 p.m. Friday.

MONROE AREA BOYS 60, JOHNSON 48: Ty Odem scored 13 points and A.J. Benefield added 11 for the Knights in the loss to No. 7 Monroe Area on Tuesday in Oakwood.

Montrell McKenzie pulled down 16 rebounds and added six blocks for Johnson (9-10, 1-6 Region 8B-AAA), which hosts Gainesville at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

BANKS COUNTY GIRLS 63, DAWSON COUNTY 55:
Madison Franklin scored 21 points to lead the Lady Leopards to the win Tuesday in Homer.

Taylor Kennedy and Deasha Beasley each added 13 points and Terry Kreegar scored 11 for Banks County (8-12, 1-3 Region 8A-AA), which visits Rabun County at 7 p.m. Friday.

Dawson County was lead by Carly Gilreath with 13 points and Allie Costley with 11. The Lady Tigers visit East Hall at 7 p.m. Friday.

DAWSON COUNTY BOYS 50, BANKS COUNTY 44:
Tyler Dominy poured in 27 points to lead the Tigers to the win Tuesday in Homer.

Jacob Evans added 17 points for Dawson County (13-5, 2-3 Region 8A-AA), which visits East Hall at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Adam Hiten scored 23 points and Trey Martin added 14 for Banks County, which visits Rabun County at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN 66, HOLY GROUND 39:
Clay Cox and Byron Wilkenson each scored 16 points to lead the Chargers to the win Tuesday in Carrollton.

North Georgia (14-5) plays Covenant Christian at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 in Loganville.

WEST HALL 43, WHITE COUNTY 25:
Omar Lopez (119 pounds), Isreal Salas (135), Tanner Yates (145), Christian Spelvea (152) and Ricardo Mancilla (160) all had pins for West Hall, which participates in the Hall County Duals at Gainesville on Friday and Saturday.
