Vining earns 699th win

Junior Austin Pearson scored 11 points, coach Seth Vining earned his 699th victory as a head basketball coach and the Lakeview Academy boys defeated Prince Avenue 47-34 on Friday night in Athens.

Sophomore Austin Montgomery scored eight points for the Lions, who recovered from a four-point third quarter to scored 18 in the final period and take the victory.

Jackson Wells scored seven points for Lakeview (9-9, 3-1 Region 8-A).

Vining will try for his 700th win on Tuesday when the Lions host Social Circle at 7:30 p.m.

PRINCE AVENUE GIRLS 40, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 30: Taylor Handte scored eight points and was one of seven players to score for the Lady Lions in the loss Friday in Athens.

Lakeview Academy (2-15, 1-8 Region 8-A) hosts Social Circle at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

NORTH HALL GIRLS 65, STEPHENS COUNTY 46:
Mary Kate Rushton scored 18 points and the Lady Trojans exploded for 29 fourth-quarter points to earn the win Friday in Toccoa.

Sarah Paschall added 10 points for North Hall (8-9, 3-1 Region 8A-AAA), which faces Wesleyan 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Norcross.

JOHNSON GIRLS 62, OCONEE COUNTY 48:
Caitlin Sloan scored 26 points to lead the Lady Knights to the win Friday in Watkinsville.

Sloan also pulled down six rebounds for Johnson (10-7, 4-1 Region 8B-AAA), which led Oconee County at the end of every quarter.

Gabby Barillard scored a game-high 27 points for Oconee County.

Johnson visits West Hall at 6 p.m. Saturday.

GAINESVILLE BOYS 57, MONROE AREA 44:
The Red Elephants limited Monroe Area to 15 points combined in the first and third quarters in victory Friday at Monroe.

Quon Holcomb scored a team-high 16 points to lead Gainesville (11-6, 4-2 Region 8B-AAA), and Shaquan Cantrell added 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

Ken Jackson led Monroe Area with a game-high 25 points.

Gainesville will play Walnut Grove 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Loganville.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 47, MONROE AREA 26: Mikalyn DeFoor scored 12 points to lead the Lady Red Elephants to the win Friday at Monroe.

Rebecca Webster added nine points for Gainesville (10-8, 5-1 Region 8B-AAA), which visits Walnut Grove at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

RABUN COUNTY GIRLS 61, EAST HALL 60 (OVERTIME): Morgan Jackson scored 22 points and Jasmine Jenkins added 15 in a losing effort Friday in Tiger.

The Lady Vikings (9-7, 2-2 Region 8A-AA) were outscored 18-8 in the first quarter, but got back in the game with a 23-10 effort in the third period. They were outscored 7-6 in the overtime period after ending regulation tied at 54.

The Lady Vikings host Whitfield at 4 p.m. Saturday.

BUFORD BOYS 50, WESTMINSTER 47: Alex Flagler scored 16 points and Kyle Kellam added 13 as the Wolves won Friday in Atlanta.

Tied at 30 going into the final quarter, Buford (10-5, 5-2 Region 6A-AA) outscored Westminster 21-18 in the fourth to earn the win. The Wolves play Lovett at 7 p.m. Saturday in Atlanta.

BUFORD GIRLS 51, WESTMINSTER 15: Andraya Carter scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Lady Wolves to the win Friday in Atlanta.

Kaela Davis added 10 points for Class AAA’s second-ranked Buford (13-1, 5-0 Region 6A-AA), which held Westminster to five total points in the first three quarters. Buford plays Lovett at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Atlanta.

HORIZON CHRISTIAN ACADEMY BOYS 67, NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN 60: Zach Pendley scored 20 points and Clay Cox and Tyler Harney each added nine in the loss Friday in Cumming.

North Georgia (13-5) outscored Horizon 18-12 in the final period. The Chargers will play Holy Ground Baptist at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Carrollton.

WINDER-BARROW BOYS 57, FLOWERY BRANCH 36: James Hodges and Quincy Hodges each scored seven points to lead the Falcons in the loss Friday in Winder.

Flowery Branch hosts Jefferson at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

WINDER-BARROW GIRLS 46, FLOWERY BRANCH 38: Tavia Sykes scored 12 points and Kayla Robles added 10 in the loss Friday in Winder.

Flowery Branch (4-12) hosts Jefferson at 4 p.m. Saturday.
