West Hall boys hit late free throws to hold off Johnson, 73-72

Tyswon Cantrell scored 13 points for the West Hall boys and hit all five of his free throw attempts late in the fourth quarter to preserve a 73-72 win against Johnson on Saturday in Oakwood.

Matt Hollis led the Knights with 29 points, and junior forward Montrell McKenzie had his second triple-double of the week with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocked shots.

Cantrell knocked down a pair of free throws in the final minute to build a four-point lead, but Johnson's Drew Dunham came right down the court and hit a 3-pointer to make it just a one-point game.

West Hall was led by A.J. Stephens with 21 points. Hunter Atkinson finished with 17 points for the Spartans (10-10, 5-3 Region 8-AAA South) and Rico Jones scored 15.

The game was relatively close for the most of the first half. West Hall led 18-14 after the first period, and went up 37-31 at halftime. A.J. Benefield was Johnson's next highest scorer with eight points.

West Hall hosts Lanier at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Oakwood. Johnson visits Monroe Area at 7:30 on Tuesday.

WEST HALL GIRLS 49, JOHNSON 47: Kaelyn Gattis scored 12 for the Lady Spartans (7-15, 4-4 Region 8-AAA South) and Brooke Reed added nine points with 12 rebounds Saturday in Oakwood. Harlee Robson scored 12 for the Lady Knights and Carlie Doster added nine.

West Hall hosts Lanier at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Oakwood.

BUFORD GIRLS 58, LOVETT 44: Kaela Davis scored a game-high 23 for the Lady Wolves and Mackenzie Darrah added 14 on Saturday in Buford.

In her second game back this season, senior Andraya Carter chipped in 10 points for Buford (12-6, 8-0 Region 6B-AA), which took a 17-10 lead after the first period.

Buford visits Blessed Trinity at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Roswell.

BUFORD BOYS 64, LOVETT 52: T.J. Shipes scored a game-high 22 to lead the Wolves (13-5, 7-1 Region 6B-AA) on Saturday in Buford.

Kyle Kellam (12) and Isaiah Williams (10) also chipped in double-digit scoring efforts for Buford, which took control of the game in the third period by outscoring the Lions 18-10.

Buford visits Blessed Trinity at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Roswell.

LAKEVIEW BOYS 81, RIVERSIDE MILITARY 43: The Lions jumped to a 21-8 lead through the first period of play Saturday at Curtis Hall and led 43-22 at halftime for a subregion win in Gainesville.

Austin Pearson led Lakeview (15-3, 9-0 Region 8A-A) with 22 points and Matt Askounis chipped in 13. Joel Larsen (11) and Austin Montgomery (10) were also double-digit scorers for the Lions.

Adrian Humphrey scored 16 for the Eagles and Justin Sweeting added 10.

Lakeview visits Social Circle at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

WHITEFIELD ACADEMY BOYS 80, EAST HALL 72: J.C. Hampton finished with 32 points and Hayden Chapman chipped in 15 for the Vikings in a loss, snapping an eight-game winning streak that dated back to the Lanierland tournament championship game against Gainesville.

Brian Edwards scored 15 points for East Hall.

The Vikings play host to Union County at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

BANKS COUNTY GIRLS 46, LUMPKIN COUNTY 32: Kaitlyn Duncan led the Lady Leopards with 13 points and Madison Franklin added 11. Banks County plays host to Dawson County at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Homer.

CHESTATEE BOYS 75, WHITE COUNTY 59 (Friday): Lucas Bennett (14 points), Justin Jones (13), Keelan Passmore (12) and Cole Morgan (12) were all in double digits scoring for the War Eagles on Friday.

Rand Rowland scored 15 for White County and Eddie Hurst added 14.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 67, MONROE AREA 22 (Friday): Rebecca Webster scored a game-high 29 and Paisley Lee added nine points for the Lady Red Elephants on Friday.

OCONEE COUNTY GIRLS 60, JOHNSON 47 (Friday): Lyndsey Pethel led the Lady Knights with 14 points on Friday. Harlee Robson and Emily Byers each finished with 12 for Johnson.

FLOWERY BRANCH PLACES SECOND AT NORTH GEORGIA REGIONALS:
Led by a first-place finish by the boys team in the 200 yard freestyle relay by the four-man team of Hudson Howard, Conner Cudney, Zack Miller-Hogg and Robbie Mix, the Falcons took second out of 21 teams at the North Georgia Regionals on Saturday at the Carpet Capital Aquatics Club in Dalton.

Mix, Howard, Miller-Hogg and Mark Faul took second in the 400 freestyle relay.

Individually, Miller-Hogg placed second in the 100 freestyle and third in the 100 backstroke.

Wrestling
Tyler Kratzer (138 pounds) finished first overall in his weight class for North Hall as it took ninth overall out of 27 teams in the North Metro Classic on Saturday at Brookwood High in Lilburn.

Tyler Goss (120) finished second for the Trojans and Taylor Marett (106) placed fourth.

North Hall wrestles next in the Hall County Championships on Friday at Johnson.
