The Gainesville volleyball team improved its record to 16-5 Thursday with victories over Habersham Central, 25-17, 25-21, and Lakeview Academy, 25-16, 25-22, at Lakeview Academy in Gainesville.
Tanai Watson led the Red Elephants’ offense with 11 kills, 11 digs and an ace. Sydney King had 30 digs, six aces and three assists. Savannah Roys added 28 assists, 13 digs and five aces.
The Lady Elephants face Athens Academy on the road Saturday.
EAST HALL WINS TWO: The Vikings boosted their record to 24-7 on Thursday by defeating Stephens County, 25-4, 25-18, and Johnson, 25-22, 25-13.
East Hall’s Summer Lindsey had 29 points scored on serve with two aces, two assists and 24 digs. Cassida Shockley had 11 points on serve with five aces, three kills, 30 assists and three digs.
Minette Maldonado had seven points on serve with three aces, 18 kills, one assist and 13 digs. East Hall faces Lumpkin County and Fannin County in the Area 7-AAA opener starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Dahlonega.
JOHNSON PICKS UP VICTORY: The Knights picked up a 26-24, 25-22 win over Stephens County on Thursday but also suffered a 22-25, 13-25 loss to East Hall.
Grace Eidson led Johnson with 10 kills and added 11 digs and eight assists. Julia Bowers led Johnson with 15 digs. Brittany Barker finished with five aces, six kills and five digs. Samantha Summerville had 11 assists and 11 digs.
Johnson (5-19, 1-1 area) travels to Chestatee on Tuesday.
JEFFERSON SPLITS: The Dragons rebounded from a 25-20, 10-25, 13-25 loss to Oconee County by defeating rival Jackson County 25-13, 25-21 later Thursday night at Jackson County High School in Jefferson.
Abby Wood led Jefferson with 14 kills. Wood also had 14 digs, tying Olivia Przybysz for the team high. Madison Corbett led the Dragons with 16 assists and Grace Haney added 12. Jefferson is now 23-5 and 3-2 in area play.
BANKS COUNTY 4, FRANKLIN COUNTY 0: Mallory Parson racked up 10 strikeouts and allowed only four hits in a complete game shutout Thursday at Franklin County High in Carnesville. Parson also went 2 for 4 at the plate.
Teammate Abby Baird supported Parson with a two-run home run. Jaycie Bowen was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Leopards. Taylor Parson went 2 for 3, while Emilee Turner and Morgan Rylee had one hit apiece.
BUFORD 7, JOHNSON 0: Buford defeated Johnson via forfeit Thursday, putting the final score at 7-0 per GHSA rules. The Wolves (13-3, 3-1 Region 8-AAAA) will face White County at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday in Cleveland.
