High school scoreboard: Gainesville snaps Lumpkin County's streak

The Gainesville High baseball team defeated Lumpkin County 6-2, snapping the Indians’ 12-game winning streak Friday in Dahlonega.

Erik Tarnacki led the Red Elephants (10-8, 10-7 Region 7-AAA) with a complete game performance on the mound, striking out 11 and allowing four hits. He was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs at the plate.

Stephen Mason was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Gainesville. Anderson Loggins had two runs and scored an RBI and Sloan Strickland added another RBI for the Red Elephants.

The loss is the first for Lumpkin County (17-2, 15-2) since March 6.

Gainesville plays host to West Hall 4 p.m. today. Lumpkin County visits West Forsyth at 10 a.m. today.

Johnson 5, West Forsyth 4

Taylor Whitmire hit a walk-off RBI single in the seventh inning to lead the Knights past West Forsyth on Friday in Oakwood.

Whitmire, Christian Duguay, Trae Wilson and Chris White each had two hits for Johnson (4-16, 4-14). Fletcher Whiting pitched a complete game for the Knights.

Johnson visits Gilmer at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Flowery Branch 9, West Hall 5

The Falcons scored seven runs in the last two innings to rally late on Friday in Oakwood.

Corey Sanderson was 3-for-4 with a home run for Flowery Branch (16-4, 15-4 Region 7-AAA). Preston Bostic had a two-run double and Robby Boudreau and Jimmy Fitzgerald added RBIs for the Falcons.

Matt Pilgrim pitched 5 2/3 innings for the Flowery Branch win. James Wilson earned the save.

Caleb Stewart hit a two-run home run and had a double for West Hall (7-11, 5-11). Brandon Grizzle and Josh Preston added two hits for the Spartans.

Flowery Branch visits Creekview at 5:30 p.m. today. West Hall visits Gainesville at 4 p.m. today.

Lakeview Academy 10, Tallulah Falls 0

Nick Drury pitched three innings and only allowed one hit on Friday to earn the win for Class A’s third-ranked Lions (16-1, 10-0 Region 8-A) in Gainesville. Brett Armour led Lakeview Academy offensively with a grand slam in the second inning.

Lions senior Haughton Carswell had a hit and scored three runs.

Lakeview Academy plays host to Towns County at 1 p.m. today.

Jefferson 19, Banks County 0

The Dragons scored all of their runs in the first two innings for a win in three innings Friday in Jefferson.

Jamie Sexton was 2-for-2 with a home run, three runs and five RBIs for Jefferson (15-2, 10-1 Region 8S-AA). Tyler Bailey added three RBIs for the Dragons.

Chris Swancey earned the win on the mound or Jefferson.

Jefferson visits East Jackson at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Banks County (13-6, 7-5) plays host to Lakeview Academy at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

White County 12, Pickens 1

Luke Crumley was 2-for-2 with a home run, two runs and three RBIs while striking out seven on the mound for the Warriors on Friday in Cleveland.

David Sosebee hit a grand slam for White County (11-9, 9-9 Region 7-AAA). Kevin Frederick was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs and an RBI for the Warriors.

White County plays host to West Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
