High school scoreboard: Gainesville girls tennis team tops Heritage 5-0
Red Elephants finish regular season 10-0 in Region 8-AAAAA

The Gainesville girls tennis team finished the regular season unbeaten in region play with a 5-0 win against Heritage on Monday at Longwood Park.

Katherine Wright, Haley Frankum and Ali Waggoner all won singles matches for the Red Elephants. Madi Kiser and Paige Patterson along with Paige Ackerman and Sally Callahan were doubles winners.

Gainesville now 16-2 opens the Region 8-AAAAA tournament at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

GAINESVILLE 16, CEDAR SHOALS 0: Gainesville’s Jack Langford played all nine positions as it beat Cedar Shoals in three innings on Monday at Ivey-Watson Field.

Fedrick Cardona had three hits and scored three runs for the Red Elephants (17-4, 14-2 Region 8-AAAAA), and Jared Smith had a pair of hits and drove in two runs. Farris Mance and Banks Griffith each had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for Gainesville.

A.J. Smallwood earned the win, striking out five batters.  On Wednesday, Gainesville visits Lanier in Sugar Hill.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 132, HABERSHAM CENTRAL 154: Ashleigh Bishop shot a 38 for the Lady Red Elephants to earn low medalist on Monday. Julianna Towns carded a 45 for Gainesville, and freshman Vivian Robinson finished with a 49 at Chattahoochee Golf Club.

Habersham Central junior Kylie Blackburn led the Raiders with a 46.

Gainesville will play Habersham Central again today at Apple Mountain Golf Resort in Clarkesville.
