High School Scoreboard: Gainesville, Carpenter make short work of Salem
Red Elephants win 15-0 in four innings

Gainesville’s Sam Carpenter pitched a complete-game shutout with five strikeouts in the Red Elephants 15-0 win over Salem in four innings on Wednesday.

Jared Smith went 2 for 2 with three runs scored and Jack Langford accounted for three RBIs.

The Region 8-AAAAA champions have outscored their last six opponents by a combined score of 81-2.

Gainesville (21-4, 18-2 8-AAAAA) visits Mountain View at 5:55 p.m. Friday.

NORTH HALL 12, NORTH OCONEE 3: The Trojans clinched second place in Region 8-AAAA and a home playoff series on Wednesday night.

Drew Atha, Fowler Brooks, Jake Chester and Clark Hill all had two hits each. John Mark Montgomery went 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored when he stole home in the top of the seventh inning.

North Hall finishes the regular season at 18-8 and 12-4 in region play. The Trojans will face an opponent still to be determined to open the Class AAAA playoffs in the best-of-three series April 29 in Gainesville.

FLOWERY BRANCH 4, APALACHEE 3: Flowery Branch pitcher Jackson Harrell threw a complete game with one earned run allowed and seven strikeouts on Wednesday.

Dylan Childress had three hits and Anthony Grutadaurio, Trey Groves, Jake Grabher and Harrell each finished with two hits.

Flowery Branch finishes their season at 9-16-1 and 7-13 in Region 8-AAAAA.

CHESTATEE 15, MONROE AREA 6 (TUESDAY): The War Eagles raked out 15 hits with two home runs, a triple and three doubles with 13 RBIs.

Chestatee hosts Monroe Area at 5:55 p.m. on Senior Night.

Soccer

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY GIRLS 7, GEORGE WALTON 2 (TUESDAY): Carmen Wagner scored five goals and Meredith Tucker had a school-record six assists.

Lakeview Academy visits Hebron Christian 5 p.m. on Friday. The winner will be crowned Region 8-A champions.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 6, GEORGE WALTON 1 (TUESDAY): Andrew Miller Bell had three goals and an assist.

Bryce Kimball, Raunaq Sharif and Jack Perkins each had a goal, and Cameron Sheeram finished with two assists.

JOHNSON BOYS 10, STEPHENS COUNTY 0 (TUESDAY): Fabian Abarca scored a hat trick, as the Knights’ defense did not allow Stephens County to take a shot.

Johnson (16-0-1) next plays on Tuesday in the first round of the Class AAAA state tournament in Oakwood.

Golf

BANKS COUNTY GIRLS FINISH REGION 7-AAA RUNNER-UP (MONDAY): Banks County senior Morgan Rylee finished as the 7-AAA individual runner-up with an 89 on Monday at Highland Walk Golf Course.

Franklin County won the region championship and will advance to the state tournament.

Banks County advances to sectional play on May 2 at Indian Trace Golf Course in Chatsworth.
