The Flowery Branch girls tennis team dropped just one set in a season-opening 5-0 win against Lanier on Thursday.
Winning in singles 8-0 for the Lady Falcons were Annabelle Thomas, Olivia Correa and Olivia Nance. Peyton Brick/Kylie McGuire and Breanna Martin/Marissa Barrett were doubles winners for Flowery Branch.
BUFORD BOYS 3, CHAMBLEE 2: In singles, Brady Todd notched a win at No. 1, while Luke Davidson won at No. 3 for the Wolves (1-1) on Thursday. Cameron DeLoach and Alex Pruitt won in No. 1 doubles.
NORTH HALL BOYS 4, LUMPKIN COUNTY 1: The Trojans swept all three lines in singles while collectively only dropping two sets during a cold regular season opener Thursday in Dahlonega.
In singles, Masa Kobayashi won in straight sets over Tyler Schott (7-5, 6-4) at No. 1. Christian Boychuk defeated Eli Ledford (6-2, 6-4) at No. 2, while Kody Dills won in the same fashion over Jacob Tomblin, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
In doubles, Daniel Martin and Adam Turcotte only dropped a single game in a straight-set win at No. 1.
At No. 2 doubles, Shawn Wallhausen and Jackson Roush fell in a third-set (4-6, 6-4, 7-10) tiebreak.
NORTH HALL GIRLS 5, LUMPKIN COUNTY 0: The Lady Trojans dropped only seven games in singles and doubles to sweep their season opener.
Anna Montgomery (6-2, 6-2), Lauren Davis (6-0, 6-0) and Christen Barnes (6-0, 6-0) won all three lines in singles. In doubles, Sydney Patterson and Raquel Kallab (6-1, 6-1) won at No. 1, while Lauren White and Baylee Turner (6-0, 6-1) won at No. 2.
North Hall (1-0) hosts Meadowcreek on Feb. 16 in Gainesville.
Basketball
BANKS COUNTY GIRLS 57, PUTNAM COUNTY 46: Jaycie Bowen scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Lady Leopards in the Region 8-AA semifinals on Thursday. Allison Smith scored 14 points for Banks County (19-7), while Gabby Kennedy finished with 10 points.
Banks County will host the Banks County/Elbert County winner in the region title game at 7 p.m. tonight in Homer.
