The Flowery Branch High baseball team won 9-1 at Central Gwinnett in its season opener Friday.

Trevor Roof tossed four scoreless innings with six strikeouts to earn the pitching victory.

Andrew Nolt’s home run and three RBIs led the Falcons (1-0) offensively, with Stephen Skeggs and Jonathan Hughes each adding a double and an RBI.

Flowery Branch plays at Dacula at 1 p.m. today and at Jackson County at 5 p.m.

JACKSON COUNTY 7, MADISON COUNTY 5: Jase Latty struck out seven and allowed one run on two hits in three innings of relief to pick up the home win Friday.

Joel Ellis (3 for 4, 2 doubles, run, 2 RBIs), Ryan Fogarty (2-for-3, double) and Travis Vickers (2 for 4, SB, 2 runs) led the Panthers’ offense.

Jackson County hosts Flowery Branch at 5 p.m. today.



CHESTATEE GIRLS 2, DALTON 0: The Lady War Eagles returned from a two-week layoff with a win Friday.

Taylor Buffington scored in the first two minutes of the second half off a Merrie Barnett assist. Sadie Foote added a penalty-kick goal.

Bailey Hooper and Samantha Addington played well defensively. Tyler Bennett, making her debut as goalkeeper, notched the shutout with four saves in goal. The Lady War Eagles (1-2) host White County on Tuesday in their first Region 8-AAAA game of the season.

WEST HALL BOYS 11, FRANKLIN COUNTY 1: Simon Cobian tallied three goals and two assists, Ramses Martinez added two goals and an assist and Richie Asturika scored two goals for the second-ranked Spartans (2-0, 1-0 Region 7-AAA) on Friday.

Sammy Coto (goal, 2 assists), Eduardo Magana (goal), Brad Hodgson (goal) and Cesar Villa (goal) each scored once.
Jose Ramirez (3 assists), Jonathan Corona (assist) and Ronald Portillo (assist) all had assists.

WEST HALL GIRLS 10, FRANKLIN COUNTY 0: Reachel Beaulieu paced the Lady Spartans to a victory in their region opener Friday with four goals and an assist, and Katie Kirkland added two goals and three assists.

Izabel Salgado (2 goals, assist), Reagan Horton (goal, assist) and Shelley Anderson (goal) also scored.

Monica Payero had two assists and Lucero Ibarra one assist for West Hall.

RIVERSIDE MILITARY 11, PROVIDENCE CHRISTIAN 1: Guillermo Cruz-Celis and Samuel Palmer each had hat tricks to lead the Eagles on Friday night, putting in three goals apiece.

Adam Turner added two goals, with Michael Ajufo, Javier Carus and Ricardo Policarpo each scoring one goal.
Riverside (2-1) hosts Clarke Central at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

FORSYTH CENTRAL GIRLS 1, FLOWERY BRANCH 0: The lone goal of the game came midway through the first half Friday.

The Lady Falcons host South Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

LUMPKIN BOYS SOCCER 4, LAKEVIEW 0: The Indians won a non-region matchup Friday in Dahlonega. Lakeview hosts George Walton Academy on Tuesday.


DAWSON CHRISTIAN BOYS 58, NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN 46: The Chargers fell to Dawson Christian Academy 58-46 on Friday night in Milledgeville in the GICAA state final in Division II-A.

Chris Palmer scored 16 points and Norris Rettiger added 14 for North Georgia Christian.
