Commerce beats rivals Jefferson 9-4 in baseball

Colton Davis had a three-run home run for Commerce in the first inning of Monday’s 9-4 win against Jefferson in Commerce. Josh Swistak added a three-run home run in the second inning for the Tigers.

Robert Hayes threw four innings and allowed only three hits and one run for Commerce.

Trent Sorrells led the Dragons (2-1) with a three-run home run.

Commerce hosts Banks County at 5:30 p.m. today, and Jefferson hosts Gainesville at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday.

UNION COUNTY 6 TOWNS COUNTY 3: Zach Odom went 2 for 4 with a triple and two runs scored for the Panthers (2-0) Monday night in Hiawassee. T Bentley went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for Union County, Wes Aulet went 1 for 3 with two RBIs, and Lane Everett earned the win with six strike outs.

The Panthers visit Lakeview Academy at noon Saturday in Gainesville.

RIVERSIDE MILITARY 2, PINECREST ACADEMY 1: Christian Phares went 1 for 2 with one RBI for the Eagles (1-1-1) and Blake Barrom went 1 for 3 with one RBI Monday afternoon in Gainesville.

The Eagles visit Athens Christian at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

LUMPKIN COUNTY 8, WEST HALL 5: Will Anderson led the Indians (2-0) with two hits, a home run, one RBI and two runs scored Monday night in Dahlonega. Mitchell Stephens had two hits and two runs scored for Lumpkin County, and Logan Moye had three hits and two RBIs.

The Indians visit Fannin County at 5 p.m. tonight in Blue Ridge.

Tennis

WINDER BARROW BOYS 4, JOHNSON 1: Cameron Kinser and Jacob Horne won 6-4, 7-5 in No. 2 doubles for the Knights (2-5, 1-3 Region 8-AAA South) on Monday afternoon in Oakwood.

Johnson hosts Monroe Area at 4 p.m. today.

NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN 2, COLONIAL HILL CHRISTIAN 0: Tristan Diepenbrock scored for the Chargers off of a throw-in from Dylan Boonstra on Monday night in Gainesville. Corwin Kulig scored North Georgia Christian’s second goal with eight minutes left in the game.

The Chargers will play Thursday night in Gainesville.

NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN 2, COLONIAL HILLS 0: Nicole Ball scored both goals for the Lady Chargers on Monday night in Gainesville. Missy McLagan earned the shutout in goal for North Georgia Christian.

The Lady Chargers will play Loganville Christian at 4 p.m. Thursday at Allen Creek.
