Preston Graham hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the third inning and threw a scoreless sixth inning to earn the save as the North Hall baseball team won its season opener, 5-3, against Habersham Central on Monday at Jody Davis Field.
Jesse Strickland went 3-for-4 with a double and Whit Bowen added a double for North Hall (1-0), which led 5-0 after Graham’s triple and never trailed. Chris Stevens threw five innings to earn the win for the Trojans, who host Flowery Branch at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Habersham Central (0-1) managed one run in the fourth and two in the fifth against North Hall and will visit Gainesville at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday.
BUFORD 12, FORSYTH CENTRAL 2: The Wolves pounded out 13 hits and three home runs in their season opener on Monday in Cumming. Josh Heddinger, a senior, had a two-run home run and a solo home run for Buford (1-0).
Mason Gentry added a two-run home run for the Wolves, and Brian Clark added two extra base hits and three RBIs.
Troy Herterick had four singles for Buford, which plays host to Hebron Christian at 5:30 today at Buford City Park.
