Lady Vikings roll to easy win

The East Hall girls turned in a dominant performance on both ends of the court, routing East Jackson, 69-18, on Monday in Elberton in the first round of the Region 8-AA tournament.

The Lady Vikings (17-9, No. 3 8-AA North) advance to face North Oconee, the No. 2 seed from the south subregion at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Elberton with a berth in the state playoffs on the line.

Morgan Jackson led a trio of Lady Vikings in double figures with 18 points. Taylor Bishop added 15 via five 3-pointers and Jasmine Jenkins scored 13 as East Hall outscored East Jackson 45-4 in the second half.

JOHNSON GIRLS 59, WHITE COUNTY 49: The Lady Knights moved one step closer to a spot in the Class AAA playoffs with a win Monday night in Carnesville in the first round of the Region 8-AAA tournament.

Johnson (15-11, No. 4 8-AAA South) sprang from the gates with 24 first-quarter points and held a 36-23 lead at halftime. Caitlin Sloan led the charge with 17 points, 11 rebounds and two steals. Lyndsey Pethel added 10 rebounds for the Lady Knights.

White County was led by Shauna Anderson’s 12 points.

To earn a playoff berth, Johnson will have to get past Chestatee, the No. 1 seed from the north subregion, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdsay on the Lady War Eagles’ home court. It will be the first meeting between the teams this season.
White County’s season is complete.

STEPHENS COUNTY GIRLS 44, WEST HALL 38: The Lady Spartans’ season came to a close on Monday in Watkinsville with a loss in the first round of the Region 8-AAA tournament.

The Lady Indians held a 7-5 lead after one quarter and built on it throughout the first three periods, building a nine-point lead entering the final quarter.

Senior Amber Johnson scored 10 points in her final game, while a pair of freshmen Jensen Hall (11 points, three 3-pointers) and Maia Booker (nine points) came through with big contributions in a losing effort.

Kashauna Butler led all scorers with 15 points for the Lady Indians, who will play 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Walnut Grove.

HART COUNTY GIRLS 57, DAWSON COUNTY 55:  The Lady Tigers fell short in the fourth quarter, scoring just two points in the final eight minutes, in a loss Monday in  Elberton.

Carly Gilreath led the Lady Tigers (11-13) with 16 points. Dawson County’s season is complete.

Soccer

WEST HALL BOYS 3, FLOWERY BRANCH 2: Led by two goals from Matt Lewis, the Spartans opened the season with a win on Monday in Oakwood.

Flowery Branch led 1-0 at halftime before Lewis evened the score soon after the break. With six minutes remaining Lewis struck again, this time from 25 yards away, to break a 2-2 tie.

Luis Cervantes added a goal for West Hall, and goalkeeper Frankie Vazquez added four saves.

West Hall is back on field at 7:30 tonight, playing host to East Hall.

The Lady Spartans, who defeated Flowery Branch 2-0 on Monday, will play at 5 p.m. today against East Hall.

Tennis

WEST HALL BOYS 5, DACULA 0: The Spartans (3-0) stayed unbeaten with a sweep Monday at Dacula High.
Brenden Worth and Max Wilson swept the top two singles matches in straight sets, while Connor McFall won in three sets in No. 3 singles.

Both West Hall doubles teams won in straight sets, with Tatum Scroggs and Min Kim winning at No. 1, while Ryan Casey and Grayson Kyle won at No. 2.

Regional events
