North Hall’s Paul Powers swam a personal best in the 50-yard free style to take fifth place at the Georgia High School Swim Championships on Saturday in Atlanta. Powers, who completed the event in 21.57 seconds, also placed ninth in the 100-yard backstroke.
Flowery Branch’s Zach Miller-Hogg finished 12th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.98 seconds.
JOHNSON BOYS 59, LANIER 57: The Knights advanced in the Region 8-AAA tournament with a win on Saturday in Monroe.
Cam Schofield scored 17 points, while Ty Odem had 14 and Matt Hollis had 13 for the Knights, who play North Hall in the next round of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at North Hall.
BUFORD BOYS 86, CROSS KEYS 46: Alex Flagler scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Buford Wolves to a win over Cross Keys on Saturday in Buford. T.J. Shipes added 12 points for the Wolves, who open the Region 6-AA tournament this week.
HABERSHAM CENTRAL BOYS 59, FLOWERY BRANCH 43: Pat Burns scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Habersham Central Raiders to a win Saturday in the final game of the regular season for both teams.
Jake Brooks added 14 points and Kevin Ellison had 10 for the Raiders.
Tyler McBroom had a team-high 10 points for the Falcons, who enter the region tournament as the No. 5 seed from the north subregion.
Both Flowery Branch and Habersham Central open the Region 8-AAAA tournament on Thursday.
