The North Georgia Christian boys defeated Heritage Christian Academy 85-65 in the first round of the GICAA basketball state playoffs in Flowery Branch on Thursday. Norris Rettiger scored 24 points to lead the Chargers. Chris Palmer added 21 points and Justin Law chipped in 15 for North Georgia Christian.
The Chargers will play Dawson Christian Friday night for seeding in the state playoffs.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 9, JACKSON COUNTY 0: Mara Wheat scored three goals with an assist for the Lady Falcons to open the season Thursday. Halie Windish, Madeline McCarthy, Morgan Wadsworth, Rachel Cohn, Laura Zwald and Aneesa Jones each scored one goal for Flowery Branch. On Tuesday, Flowery Branch visits Buford.
NORTH FORSYTH BOYS 3, RIVERSIDE MILITARY 1: The Eagles evened their record at 1-1 on Thursday in Coal Mountain.

Johnny Griffing and Phuoc Nguyen won in singles play for the West Hall boys in a 3-2 victory against Rabun County on Thursday. Doubles winners for the Spartans were Jared Pineda/Jarrett Turner (6-3, 6-3).
WEST HALL GIRLS 4, RABUN COUNTY 1: The win was the first for new head coach Miro Gomez in the season opener at Alberta Banks Park. Charmie Adajania and Amanda Burris won in singles play for the West Hall girls during a 4-1 victory against Rabun County on Thursday. Doubles winners for West Hall were Caroline Tuttle/Leyla Karimzade and Anna Kate Clarke/Lexxi Bagley.
