Lakeview sweeps season series with Riverside

With three players in double-figure scoring, the Lakeview Academy boys swept the season series with Riverside Military Academy, defeating the Eagles 53-39 on Friday at Riverside.

Jackson Wells’ 16 points led the Lions (14-11, 7-4 Region 8A-A), who went on a 17-8 run in the second quarter to take a 25-15 lead into halftime.

Austin Pearson scored 15 points and Austin Montgomery added 13 for Lakeview.

Adrian Humphrey scored a game-high 24 points for Riverside (6-9 in the subregion), which outscored Lakeview 15-14 in the third quarter but could never close the gap.

As the third seed from the north subregion, Riverside Military faces second seed Athens Christian at 5:30 p.m. and second-seeded Lakeview faces third seed Athens Academy at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Commerce in the Region 8-A tournament.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 44, FRANKLIN COUNTY 38: Led by a dominating defense that limited the Lions to just 16 points through the first three quarters, the Lady War Eagles won Friday in Carnesville to lock up the Region 8A-AAA subregion title.

Peyton Robertson led ninth-ranked Chestatee (21-4, 9-1 Region 8A-AAA) with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Rachel Kelly added 10 points and six rebounds.

Chestatee, the top seed from the north subregion, will host the second round of the region tournament 7:30 p.m. Wednesday against the winner of White County and Johnson.

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 40, APALACHEE 39 (OVERTIME): Rudy DeAza scored 10 points, including the game-winning basket in extra time, as the Falcons won Tuesday in Winder. Marquise Wise added 10 points for Flowery Branch (9-15, 4-5 Region 8A-AAAA), which hosts Habersham Central at 5:30 p.m. today.

APALACHEE GIRLS 54, FLOWERY BRANCH 38: Tavia Sykes led the Lady Falcons with 14 points in the loss Friday in Winder. Flowery Branch (7-17, 2-7 Region 8A-AAAA) hosts Habersham Central at 4 p.m. today in its final game of the season.

BUFORD GIRLS 67, AVONDALE 28: With 22 points on 6-of-7 shooting from behind the 3-point line from Andraya Carter, the third-ranked Lady Wolves won Friday in Atlanta. Constance Harrison added 12 points for Buford (20-3, 13-1 Region 6A-AA), which will open play in the region tournament next week against an opponent, time and place yet to be determined. Buford hosts Cross Keys at 5:30 today.

BUFORD BOYS 63, AVONDALE 46: Led by 12 points from T.J. Shipes and 11 points from Alex Flagler, the Wolves (17-6) won Friday in Atlanta.

Kyle Kellam added 10 points for Buford, which jumped out to a 14-7 lead after the first quarter and used 22 points in the second to take a 36-20 lead into halftime. The Wolves host Cross Keys at 7 p.m. tonight.

NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 88, FAITH CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 55: Led by 17 points from Tyler Dunn, the Chargers advanced to the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia and Alabama state semifinals in Columbus with the win Friday in Gainesville.

Clay Cox and Zach Pendley each added 16 points for North Georgia (17-6), which outscored Faith Christian in every quarter. The Chargers will play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Columbus State University against an opponent yet to be determined.

Regional events
