High school scoreboard: Dawson County softball secures spot in Class AAA state playoffs
Lady Tigers won deciding Game 3 against East Hall on Tuesday

The Dawson County softball team reserved its place in the Class AAA state tournament Tuesday with a 5-4 win in the Region 7-AAA tournament against East Hall in Dawsonville. The two teams played a doubleheader Monday, which saw the Lady Vikings win the first 6-1 and the Lady Tigers take the second 7-4.

In Game 3, Madeline Hall hit a first-inning home run before back-to-back homers from Hall and Stephanie Redmon in the third put the Lady Vikings on top 3-0.

Kaila Billingsley and Maggie Schandera each had singles in the fourth inning for the Lady Tigers before Brandy Torres and Skylar Caine each had an RBI in the frame to cut the lead to 3-2.

A one-out homer by Tabitha Morrison and a triple by Katelynn Simpson, who eventually scored, put the Lady Tigers up 4-3. East Hall tied the game in the sixth as Redmon was able to score on a fielder’s choice to first base.

Dawson County took the win on an RBI single from Morrison, scoring Natalie Glass in the bottom of the sixth.

East Hall finished the season with a 14-14 record, while Dawson continues on with a 10-13 record.

The Lady Tigers will face Banks County today at 11 a.m. in Homer with the winner moving on to play for the region championship.

WHITE COUNTY SPLITS AREA TOURNEY MATCHES: The Lady Warriors volleyball team dropped their opening match to Buford 25-3, 25-2. Sydney Pardue had a kill and Addie Berry, Addie Caudell and Eliza Harris each contributed a dig in the contest.

In the second match, White County defeated Johnson 25-17, 21-25, 25-23. Berry had five aces, eight kills and two digs.

Harris led in digs with seven. She also had seven kills.

LADY TROJANS ADVANCE IN 8-AAAA TOURNEY: North Hall’s volleyball team won 25-2, 25-4 against Monroe Area before falling 25-22, 25-8 against North Oconee.

Autumn Tucker had a 21-point service run for the Lady Trojans. She also posted 13 aces, 8 kills, 10 digs and 2 blocks.

North Hall’s Lilly Paschall had 21 assists, while Lena Strickland led with 12 digs.

North Hall faces White County at 5 p.m. Thursday at host-site Buford.
