Kyvon Davenport scored 37 points with 17 rebounds for East Hall’s boys in an 83-62 victory against Banks County to claim the Region 7-AAA championship Saturday at Franklin County High in Carnesville. The Vikings (22-5) led 12-4 early in the game to claim its first region title since 2011.
Triston Cooper had a pair of steals for the Vikings late in the second quarter, and knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to give them a big cushion by halftime.
“I thought we played extremely well in the first half,” East Hall coach Joe Dix said.
Tylor Brown had 14 points for East Hall. Jacquen Hopkins and Cooper each tallied 12 points for the Vikings.
With the region title, East Hall opens the state tournament against Jefferson this week. Game time is still to be determined.
Zac Orr led Banks County (23-5) with 16 points and Kahmal Wiley had 11. The Leopards will host East Jackson to open state this week.
DAWSON COUNTY GIRLS 51, EAST HALL 45: Sheyenne Seabolt scored 19 and Karlie Bearden chipped in 14 for the top-ranked Lady Tigers in the Region 7-AAA championship game Saturday at Franklin County High in Carnesville.
With the win, Dawson County (27-0) open the Class AAA state tournament against Elbert County on Tuesday in Dawsonville.
For East Hall, Jenny Edwards had a team-high 14, while Ashlyn Ellison scored 11. The Lady Vikings (17-10) open the state playoffs against Oconee County on Tuesday in Gainesville.
GAINESVILLE GIRLS 45, FLOWERY BRANCH 39: Taylor Hawks scored 18 points and Kayla Kelly chipped in 13 for the Lady Red Elephants in the third-place game of the Region 8-AAAAA tournament on Saturday in Conyers. Hawks, a sophomore, was also an All-Tournament team selection.
With the win, Gainesville starts the state tournament as the No. 3 seed at Kell on Tuesday. Julianne Sutton scored 15 points for Flowery Branch, while Maddie Hetzel finished with 11. With the loss, the Lady Falcons enter the Class AAAAA state tournament as the No. 4 seed.
BANKS COUNTY GIRLS 57, FRANKLIN COUNTY 51: In the third-place game of the Region 7-AAA tournament, Kaitlyn Duncan scored 14 points and Abby Parks added 11 on Saturday in Carnesville. With the win, Banks County (23-5) is No. 3 to open the Class AAA state tournament on Tuesday.
CHESTATEE BOYS 5, LUMPKIN COUNTY 0 (Friday): Jonathan Pedraza, Austin Manzo, Juan Mejia, Arnold Gamez and Jose Ramirez each scored a goal for the War Eagles (2-0) on Friday. Gamez added two assists for Chestatee. On Tuesday, the War Eagles visit Cedar Shoals at 7:30 p.m. in Athens.
