High school scoreboard: Collier Scott strong for Gainesville pitching in 6-0 win to open season

Collier Scott pitched four solid innings in the season opener for Gainesville, recording five strikeouts and tripled in a run at the plate in a 6-0 win against Forsyth Central on Wednesday at Ivey-Watson Field. Banks Griffith finished with three hits and drove in two runs for the Red Elephants (1-0). Dalton Kyle and Jared Smith each had two hits for Gainesville.

On Saturday, Gainesville hosts Heritage for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. at Ivey-Watson.

WEST HALL 4, RIVERSIDE MILITARY 1: Dylan Simpson recorded five strikeouts, allowing just five hits, from the mound for the Spartans on Wednesday in Gainesville. Jeffery Jenkins posted a double with an RBI for the Spartans. Tanner Ahmad had an RBI for West Hall.

GAINESVILLE BOYS 1 CHESTATEE 0 (Tuesday): Alejandro Covarrubias scored a goal for Gainesville on Tuesday. Armando Hernandez got the assist for the Red Elephants.

Gainesville will play Johnson on Friday at City Park.

GOLF
Jacob Williams and Graham Watkins led Chestatee to victory defeating West Hall 142-168. The teams competed in a seven-hole match.
