High school scoreboard: Chestatee softball surges with 4-run 2nd inning to top Peachtree Ridge, 6-2

Elizabeth Eddins (2 for 4) had two hits and drove in a run, and the Chestatee Lady War Eagles (6-0) used a four-run surge in the bottom of the second to rally past non-region opponent Peachtree Ridge for a 6-2 win Tuesday in Gainesville.

Back-to-back RBI singles by Kala Sargent and Danielle Ortega with the bases loaded tied things up at 2-2 to start the bottom of the second. The Lady Eagles scored the go-ahead run off an Eddins’ fielder’s choice in the same inning.

The War Eagles added two insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Pitcher Rebecca Eddins pitched in relief of starter Elizabeth Eddins (2 IP, 5 H, 2 R) to toss five strong innings with only five hits allowed, one strikeout and no earned runs.

A two-run home run put Peachtree Ridge on the board in the top of the first.

EAST HALL 4, GREATER ATLANTA CHRISTIAN 2: Steffanie Redmon drove in three runs, including a two-run home run, in the Lady Vikings’(3-2, 2-1 region 7-AAA) 4-2 victory over region 7-AAA Greater Atlanta Christian on Tuesday in Norcross.

The Lady Vikings rallied after the Lady Spartans (1-3) used a Amelia Veal two-RBI double to take an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The visitors tied it up in the top of the third off an Abigail Brown RBI single to score Jennifer Lopez.

Redmon’s go-ahead two-run shot in the fifth frame sealed the victory.

Starting pitcher Macy Banks held Greater Atlanta Christian to just two hits, walked two and struck out four with no earned runs in 6 2/3 innings from the mound.

VOLLEYBALL

BUFORD LOSES FIVE-SET THRILLER TO WALTON: Tatum Shipes and Gabby Curry helped rally the Lady Wolves’ from two games down before falling 3-2 (18-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 13-15) to non-region opponent Walton.

Shipes fired a team-high 26 kills with 38 digs, while Curry had 15 kills and 37 digs. Setter Morgan Mitchell recorded 49 assists.

The Lady Wolves (2-1) welcome Dunwoody and Harrison for a tri-match at 5 p.m. on Thursday in Buford.

EAST HALL SWEEPS TRI-MATCH: The Lady Vikings (10-0) kept their unbeaten streak intact by defeating Hart County in straight-set fashion 25-7, 25-4, before doing the same in a tighter contest with Madison County (25-18, 25-23) in Gainesville.

Tessa Rider (15 points, eight aces, five kills, seven digs), Niyah Rucker (11 points, six aces, 10 kills) and Savannah Thellman (14 points, 31 assists) led the attack. Summer Lindsay recorded a team-high 20 digs.

The Lady Vikings travel to Cedar Shoals on Thursday for matches against Cedar Shoals and Putnam County, with matches beginning at 5:00 p.m.

CHESTATEE FALLS TWICE IN TRI-MATCH: The Lady War Eagles (0-2) were swept by Walnut Grove (25-9, 25-15) before falling to Tallulah Falls in the same fashion, 25-16, 25-17 in Gainesville on Tuesday.

Madelynn Woodard recorded a team-high five kills with six digs, one ace and one block. Anna Bryce had two aces from the back line with 12 assists. Sophie Davis had 13 digs and one kill.

JOHNSON LOSES TRI-MATCH: The Lady Knights (3-3) were swept by North Forsyth in a tight contest (24-16, 26-26) before falling to North Hall 0-2 (25-8, 25-23) in Gainesville.

Grace Eidson fired a team-high eight kills, dished 13 assists and had three blocks. Emma Hernandez and Samantha Summerville had five kills apiece, while Alivia Farley recorded three aces from the service line.

The Lady Knights host White County and Stephens County in a tri-match on Thursday.

NORTH HALL SPLITS TRI-MATCH AT HOME: The Lady Trojans rebounded with a straight-set victory over Johnson (25-8, 25-23) following a loss against North Forsyth, 0-2 (25-18, 25-23) in Gainesville.

Autumn Tucker led the Lady Trojans’ attack with 13 kills, eight digs, one block and one ace. Lily Paschall dished a team-high 19 assists with four kills, two aces and 16 digs. Melissa DeVerter recorded 10 kills with eight blocks.

The Lady Trojans play at Gainesville High on Thursday.

FLOWERY BRANCH SWEEPS ROAD TRI-MATCH: The Lady Falcons bested Fideles in a tight contest, 2-0 (25-22, 25-23) before defeating Kings Ridge Christian, 2-0 (25-12, 25-13) to improve to 5-0 this season.

Against Fideles, senior middle blocker Jena Killian led the efforts with 4.5 blocks, three kills and an ace. Anna Marshall was not far behind with four kills and three services aces.

Outside hitter Madison Dowdy led the attack against Kings Ridge with seven kills and two aces.
