High School Scoreboard: Chestatee softball remains unbeaten with 7-3 victory over White County

Chestatee softball remained undefeated with a 7-3 win over White County Thursday night.

The Lady War Eagles (10-0, 1-0 Region 7-AAAA) scored their first run of the contest in the second inning.

The Lady War Eagles kept racking up runs as they earned six runs in the fourth inning.

Starting pitcher Rebecca Eddins recorded eight strikeouts in her complete-game outing.

Chestatee plays Union County and Habersham Central Saturday.

CAMBRIDGE 1, BUFORD 0: The Lady Wolves had trouble scoring against Cambridge pitcher and UGA-commit Keara Napoli. The Wolves had opportunities to score in the first, second, fifth and seventh innings, but could not cross home plate against Cambridge.

Cambridge got on the board in fourth inning because of a throwing error. Cambridge was threatening to increase their lead in sixth inning with a runners on second and third with noone out. Logan Caymol shut down the Lady Bears in the inning by striking out two Cambridge hitters and inducing a pop fly to first baseman Rebecca Wilson to end the inning.

NORTH HALL 1, EAST HALL 0: The battle for first place in Region 7-AAA turned into a pitcher’s duel between Niki Carver from North Hall and Macy Banks from East Hall as the Lady Trojans held off the Lady Vikings 1-0 in Rabbittown on Thursday night.

The Lady Trojans (5-4, 5-0 Region 7-AAA) scored the game’s only run in the fourth inning. Ashlyn Brewster (1 for 3, 1 run) led off the inning with a single and Julian Garrett (2 for 3) bunted for a hit that allowed Brewster to advance all the way to third. Garrett stole second on the following pitch.

The Lady Vikings (5-5, 4-2 Region 7-AAA) attempted to catch Garrett stealing. Brewster was able to advance home on the throw. Niki Carver, Kailee Dyer and Macy Clark also had hits for North Hall. Steffanie Redman and Macy Banks collected hits for East Hall.

Niki Carver pitched a complete-game shutout, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out two batters. Macy Banks pitched seven innings, allowing one unearned run, six hits, one walk and two strikeouts.

North Hall travels to Fannin County on Tuesday.

VOLLEYBALL

West Hall came up short in a tri-match against Providence Christian and Pinecrest.

West Hall (5-8) lost to Providence in straight sets (25-11, 23-25). The Lady Spartans also lost in straight sets with Pinecrest (25-16, 21-25).

West Hall will play Lanier, Archer and Collins Hill on Tuesday.

JOHNSON SPLITS TRI-MATCH: Johnson (9-8) picked up a win against Lumpkin County in straight sets (25-8, 25-21). The Lady Knights faced Tallulah falls losing in their first set, 25-12, before taking the second, 25-20. The third and final set ended in favor of Tallulah Falls 20-13.

Emma Hernandez finished with seven aces, 10 kills and three blocks. Grace Eidson lead the attack with 14 kills and helped her team with 13 assists.

Alivia Farley led the team with 12 assists and added five kills in the attack. Julia racked up eight digs for the Lady Knights.

Johnson travels to Stephens County to play on Monday.

BUFORD SWEEPS TRI-MATCH: Buford (7-1) defeated Blessed Trinity in straight sets (25-15, 25-16) in the first match. Gabby Curry lead the attack in the match with seven kills and racked up 12 digs. Morgan Mitchell delivered 22 assists.

Buford defeated Johns Creek in straight sets, winning both sets 25-17.

Tatum Shipes racked up 13 kills, Mitchell racked up 27 assists in the match. Curry and Morgan Sutherland had eight digs each.

The Lady Wolves play again Saturday in the All-City Tournament at South Forsyth High they play Cambridge at 9 a.m.

FLOWERY BRANCH TOPS WHITE COUNTY AND EAST HALL: The Lady Falcons (12-1) beat White County in three sets (25-23, 23-25, 25-9). Jena Killian finished with 10 kills, five aces and two blocks for the Lady Falcons. Kylie McGuire had 13 assists and three aces.

The Lady Falcons defeated East Hall in two sets (25-19, 25-17). Madison Dowdy finished with eight kills, Anna Marshall racked up five kills and 1 1/2 blocks.

Before falling to Flowery Branch, East Hall topped White County (25-13, 25-11), which gave coach Ted Deppe his 300th career victory in 14 seasons.

Tessa Rider had three aces, 10 kills and 11 digs for the Lady Vikings. Niyah Rucker had 16 kills and Minette Maldonado added 17 kills on the night.

East Hall will play Stephens County and Johnson at 5 p.m. Monday in Toccoa.

Flowery Branch hosts White County on Tuesday.

CHESTATEE FALLS SHORT IN TRI-MATCH: Chestatee fell to Winder-Barrow (25-18, 25-15) and Habersham Central (25-17, 25-12) in straight sets.

Nicole Sedwick had six assists and four digs on the night. Lela Hodge had four aces and Sophie Davis chipped in 17 digs.

The Lady War Eagles host Parkview in their next match Tuesday.

THE LADY RED ELEPHANTS SPLIT IN TRI-MATCH: Gainesville (6-8) lost to Athens Academy in three sets.

The Lady Red Elephants won their first set before falling in the final two (25-23, 25-22, 25-13).

Gainesville rebounded to top Clarke Central in straight sets (26-24, 25-17).

Abby Alexander led with eight kills, three blocks and three aces. Sydney King added two aces and 20 digs. Savannah Roys provided two aces, 25 assists, 15 kills and 23 digs. Camille Holcomb added 17 assists and seven digs.

The Lady Red Elephants (6-8) open region play next week at Dacula.
